Do you like meat? Do you like the taste of murder?
I got asked this question today by some very aggressive activists.

My response was (quite snarky): Do you have any free samples?

Needless to say, I left the activists shortly after my witty retort!

Don't those wackos think that every living thing has a right to life? Planats are living things! God knows, most of the ones I'e tried to grow died!!!!

I disagree with the method of killing that most meat packers use, but I can't say that I like or believe it's murder either.

20. You have no idea how tired vegetarians get of hearing that crap
At least five times a day. "How can you murder innocent plants, yadayadayada." Take a calm, non-activist vegetarian like me, catch me in the wrong mood with that comment, and you might wind up knowing how a baby seal feels just before it's clubbed to death!

:banghead:

PS I say this with humor. Hope you understand.

71. I apologize for using that word. I meant no disrespect.
I have no problem with egetarians. I did the vegetarian munue for a month about 10 years ago when my husband was told he had to reduce his colesterol. It worked too, but he ended up having to have bypass surgery anywway and just won't give up his meat.

I didn't mean to agrivate anyone. It just seems to be a bit of an extremist view in the US.

I guess your answer was basically a "yes" then? A feeling animal did die for you to be able to eat it...and it was killed, no? Call me crazy, but that seems like murder to me. Not any judgment here although I am veg, of course it is your choice to eat whatever you want. Just sayin'.

25. I'm vegetarian, and people who say things like that make me
want to eat a steak in front of them just to keep from being associated with them. Killing an animal is murder? So if you run over a rabbit you turn yourself into the police and cop a plea for manslaughter? If you discover that a brood of rats was chased from the field where they built your house or apartment you erect a memorial in front of it?

To me, killing animals is wrong. It's a bad thing, somewhere between wearing white after Labor Day and starting a war to slaughter 100K innocent people for no good reason. Where exactly it fits, I don't waste my time figuring out-- I just try my best to avoid doing it. But to equate eating a hamburger with grabbing a small child from her front yard, choking the life out of her, and throwing her body over a cliff--to me, that's just as wrong as eating a hamburger.

Just my opinion.

Wrong method, then
Extreme statements don't make people think. They make people dismiss the argument. Persuasion is much more effective.

76. would it be more silly, or less silly, than telling people who eat meat
they would eat fetuses? I think less because telling people they're closet fetus enthusiasts isn't so much "silly" as "batshit crazy stupid".

How about a different measurement, like, taking a comment like "animal rights insurgents" seriously. Is what I say more or less silly than something THAT silly?

Please just try and be open-minded about this before you respond and actually think about what I just said.

I also realize many of you would eat a human fetus if it tasted good, but there are MANY vegetarians, vegans, and anti-veal people here on DU, myself included, who think factory farming and mass slaughter of animals is wrong - whatever our reasons for thinking it do NOT matter - WE THINK IT IS WRONG

you said we would eat a human fetus. you denied saying it. you are, therefore, a liar.

Like I said, many people who eat meat would eat fetuses if they tasted good by virtue of the fact that they use the excuse that "it tastes good" for why they eat animals. I never said ALL people who eat meat would eat a fetus. But some DUers have said as much. What's your point other than wanting to call me names?

And this isn't the first time you've gone on a vegetarian-bashing, name-calling rampage.

This is a great time to ask why your panties are in such a bunch. I only ever see you when you are in the mood to be nasty and rude to someone which usually happens to be a veggie or animal rights supporter. What's with your 'tude?

84. LOL...Prove it.
Show me where it is more harmful to eat HUMAN FLESH than it is to eat meat pumped full of antibiotics, hormones, and steroids. I'll await a respectable study on a diet based on human flesh compared to animal flesh.

85. you could substitute it with this: Hufu
Chuck Shepherd's News of the Weird (.912)
WEEK OF JULY 31, 2005

LEAD STORY

Mark Nuckols, a business student at Dartmouth, has begun selling a tofu-like food, Hufu, that is flavored to resemble what he believes is the taste of human flesh. His target audience is those who already enjoy cooking with tofu, as well as any actual cannibals who might settle for artificiality in order to avoid legal problems and logistical hassles. Nuckols said he has never tasted human flesh but based his recipe on cannibals' reported descriptions of the flavor.

106. I don't know but
"in order to avoid legal problems and logistical hassles." is pretty funny.

Probably tastes like pork would be my guess, and like food animals age and diet and muscling traits would have an influence as well.

Can I eat them? I've got a few topping my list if you give me the go-ahead, since apparently the only criteria for eating something is that it is made of meat...

It's a perfectly valid point. This guy said animals are made of meat, so that means they're made to be eaten. So are people.

is it not?

Its life is being prematurely ended so that it can be eaten.

...when they're eaten or cooked, I presume? Most can actually be propagated right up to the point when you chew them up, or toss them into the saute pan.

Do we really need to go into the neurological differences between ANIMALS and PLANTS yet again, or do we need to rehash this once more for the meat-eaters who wouldn't eat human flesh but are calling vegetarians the hypocrites?

If so, count me out. *yawn*
