"Amatuers built the ark. 'Professionals' built the Titanic" |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 10:38 PM by fishnfla
Bumper sticker I saw today. Quotation marks around the word professionals really piqued my gourd
Profound? hardly , Delusional? greatly.
I mean every mother's son knows Moses built the ark, jeez :eyes:
Edit: sorry Moses, not Job

Isn't that what they call natural disasters: acts of God?

6. "professionals" are running the war in iraq... |
|
but they are doing so in a manner akin to "amateurs". the extension being that we should turn all-matters-republic-for-which-it-stands over to evangelical christians. i seen that phrase somewhere else & they were trying to draw a line between secular & theologically based skill-sets. the rapidity with which it has cropped up of late; i find it a veiled assault on the separation of church & state somehow but that's just me

7. Yeah, I figured that was the angle too |
|
but it makes no sense. I mean an iceberg would've turned the ark to matchsticks.
And if it was so great how come it did not have deck chairs, or an orchestra?
"rearranging deck chairs on the ark" it would be like that would it not?

would say about the fact that the Titanic has been located, and the Ark never has...

fan or something? He can't stand Bush and he's politically active, but I always scratch my head over his signature line. I suppose he's more religious than I'd have guessed.

voopah, voopah, voopah. Ding "Noah" "What?" voopah, voopah, voopah. Ding "Noah" "Who is this?" "It's the Lord." "Right.... What do you want?" "I want you to build an ark." "Right ....What's an ark?"
Apparently Cosby got it wrong because it says in Genesis 9:20 that he was a "man of the soil".
Interesting piece of trivia. The oldest person in the Bible was Methuselah, Noah's grandfather. If you add up the years you find that Methuselah died in the same year as the flood. Which raises the question. Did he die in the flood, or did he die of "natural" causes before the flood?

24. Speaking of the Titanic |
|
I went antiquing this weekend and saw a Titanic cookie jar for sale. It came in two parts (because the ship broke in half, I suppose) -- tackiest thing I think I've ever seen. To me the equivalent would be making a cookie jar out out of the Twin Towers. I don't get why anyone would want to have as a cookie jar something that is a symbol of human suffering and death. I don't get it.

I don't remember exactly how it was phrased, but it had all these quotes from the Bible about how education and reading are bad and how Jesus just wants you to be stupid and not question anything. Amazing. I think God wants me to be educated but I guess that's just me.
Hi to everyone, by the way. This is my first post in the lounge (been lurking a little while). I think there are a lot of "in" jokes that I don't get here, but people seem nice so I'm gonna risk it.
