A man under the influence of drugs and looking for a free meal invaded a family’s home at gunpoint Thursday night, Sparks police said.
When police officers arrived at the home in the 2000 block of South Mackenzie Circle, they said they found Daniel Jeppsen sitting on the couch eating cereal and milk.
The 30-year-old transient was booked into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, authorities reported.
Records show Jeppsen was convicted in 1995 of felony possession of marijuana.
According to Sparks police, Jeppsen appeared about 10 p.m. Thursday at the sliding glass door of a 54-year-old grandmother’s home, pointed a gun at her and demanded food. Jeppsen then held her at gunpoint for almost an hour while he rummaged through the kitchen cabinets, police said. She told police she’d never seen the man before.
Police said the woman’s 56-year-old husband was taking a bath and her 13-year-old granddaughter was in her room when Jeppsen appeared. Her granddaughter discovered the man was in the home and was able to go to a neighbor’s home and call police. Her grandfather later came downstairs and discovered the alleged intruder, who did not speak to him. Police were then at the door.
