Poll question: What kind of computer do you own?
There are 3 computers in my house - one of which is a laptop. But I don't own the laptop. I just own a Windows OS desktop.

17. Most of the issues I've seen with connections are usually
the router is too close to the computer; make sure it's between 10 and 30 feet way.

Do the firmware updates and check that they are signed!!

Turn off the firewall(s) at first make the connection then turn on the firewall.

If you are going to use wireless, disable the ethernet connection in the Network Connections.

8. A craptacular Dell...with Windows ME
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 01:32 PM by terrya
It's vile beyond words. I'd love to throw that fucking piece of shit out the window and get a Mac instead....but the money thing is a problem. That is, not having enough to buy a Mac.

9. Hi, terrya - I just changed from Dell
I didn't like their huge contributions to Bush. I'm on a new Sony Vaio, but if you're sold on a Mac, I won't protest. I was considering a Mac myself. I need to learn more about them.

10. Dell is...cheap.
And they're very good at quick delivery....I had mine within a few days.

But that's pretty much all their good for. And I'm not wildly excited, to put it mildly, that Michael Dell is a big Bush supporter.

mvd, I've been to the Apple store here in Chicago. I wouldn't even want to go to a G5. A G4 would work nicely for me. I love the looks of Macs....very nice. Plus, simplicity of operating.

14. You're welcome, mvd.
Some of my friends...and my b/f...has Macs. They swear by them.

When I do have some bucks lying around, I'll get one. :-)

:hi:

12. Dell used to be good, but no longer. With ME make *sure*
you have all your updates from Microsoft!! Also, depending upon your Dell you might want to upgrade to Windows XP. What Processor do you have, RAM, size of Harddrive, etc.?

16. I build all my computers out of trash.
The last computer I bought new was a 25 MHz 386SX, on clearance at Montgomery Ward. That was a long time ago.

24. I think it came with Windows 3.0, which was worse than a tape drive.
I do own an original IBM P.C. with 2 full bay 5 1/4 inch floppy drives and no hard drive. But it's not really an original -- it was all rebuilt from parts.

21. I bought a Wang 386 from Ward's about 20 years ago.

It had a whopping big 40 meg Hard Drive and a 14.4 modem. That was in the BBS days.

Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 02:00 PM by LSK
I use linux for file servers and firewall and use windows 2000 as my desktop. Have a IBM laptop and a really good desktop and numerous older computers made from spare parts and stuff work was going to throw out anyways.

25. The computer I have at home is an emachine.
I only use it for the Internet, so I don't need anything really powerful. My computer at work is a brand-new eMac. I do prefer it to the PC, but won't buy another computer until my PC completely dies.
