Change the listening topic of the day up a little again.

I've been hearing a preview of the New Pornographers' Twin Cinema CD - it is outstanding! They are definitely one of my favorite bands of all time.

I took out Lindsay Lohan's Speak again. My opinion's the same as when I first bought it - appealing propulsive dynamics make some songs enjoyable, especially "Speak," which is a real thrill. But her voice is flat on the ballads, with too much filler. Still a B-.

Finally, I heard Lily Holbrook's Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt. A little too much of a Tori Amos copy, but it's definitely worth buying.

A bonus: I heard CCR - Chronicle before these.

Storefront Hitchcock - The sound track from the movie. - a long time fave, features a wonderful version of Glass Hotel along with samples of Robyn's odd stream of consciousness that makes sense if you think about it raps between songs
Gillan Welch - Soul Journey - Came late to the dance with her - wonderful - no alas will have to get everything she's done.
London Calling - Clash - in memory of Joe Strummer.

Son Volt - Okemah and the Melody of Riot
4 out of 5 stars. Not his strongest (Trace), but great Anti-Bush lyrics in Jet Pilot.

Pernice Brothers - Discover a Lovelier You
3.5 of 4 stars. Strong lyrically, the instrumentation gets denser as time goes by for Joe and I like it less and less.

Por Vida - Tribute to Alejandro Escovedo
4.5 of 5 stars. Wonderful stuff, but Alejandro still sings and orchestrate his own stuff the best. Hopefully widened his fan base. Charlie Sexton, Steve Earle and Los Lonely Boys (among others on this 2 discer) all do bang up jobs on their respective covers.

15. All wussy pop at the moment

First Tomorrow's debut (which is in my sig). Great psych-pop record. A little saccharine at times but still wholly enjoyable. :D And I think the B-side "Claremont Lake" is way better than the more famous "My White Bicycle."

Klaatu's Sir Army Suit, which is pretty cheesy in production but has some nice melodies and singing in it.

And an import from Japan, Curt Boettcher's Misty Mirage, which has about one good song on it. x(
