I actually yelled at my brother/roommate today right in the middle of the local grocery store. I make more than he does, so I buy most of the food. But money is starting to get tight, so I've been trying to stick to a budget. Money normally burns a hole in my pocket, so I've found it a struggle.

So I'm picking up some sausage that's half price, commenting that it " shouldn't break the budget, when I hear from behind me, in a mocking voice "that shouldn't break the budget".

I took that to be a mocking of what I'd been working hard at, ie the budget. Oddly, he didn't seem to think he'd said anything out loud, and so kept insisting "I didn't say anything. Why are you freaking out for nothing?"

I ended up with the impression that my 42 year old brother who sometimes acts like a 12 year old only meant to mock how I'd said it, not what I was saying.

Didn't stop me from swearing at him in the dairy department, however.

He still doesn't seem to know why I got mad.

Even so, I shoulda been able to handle it without dropping F bombs everywhere. I seriously suspect the bro has a mild form of autism, and so sometimes he just doesn't "get" things. Back before they realized you shouldn't do such things, they had my brother pretty doped up for what they called "hypersensitivity" from about age 6 to 12. I don't think he ever recovered the emotional growth you should have during that time.

The upside of that being I shouldn't let him get to me, as it's not worth it. He is who he is, which is just fine most days. Just figured I deserved more respect than that, was all.

Then again, I am my mother's daughter, which means I'm kinda high strung myself. Whatchagonna do.
