Attack on me

On Monday afternoon, at around 12 PM, I came home from
the FLL airport. From Broward County I drove my car to
my home in North Miami Beach.

When I came home my apartment was in tatters.
Shambles. A robber had buglarized my home. Taken were
my comptuer, DVD player, TV set, and Aerobed to start
off with. Also gone were my passport, gold AMEX card,
and Dickinson Mastercard. My checkbooks also were
taken. The robber took away my telephone landline too,
so all I have right now is my cell phone.

But it gets even better. The robber took my car keys,
the ones with the chip. I have a key to my car, but
they have a set too. Now this means that they can find
my car and drive off with it. To that end I am trying
to find a hotel in Broward County, probably maybe even
Palm Beach County.

I am now looking for a hotel to stay in and am
planning my departure from Florida. I am terrified for
my safety. Someone is after me and I am scared. Over
the next few days I will be arranging for my departure
from Florida.

For now this is the email account I will be using, as
my earthlink address is now held by the robbers. If
you get any message from my earthlink account it is
from the robber, not from me.

The insurance adjuster is coming on Wednesday morning.
Right now I am afraid because this person has all my
information. I am afraid of becoming victimized by identity theft.

I don't know why this is happening to me or why my
life has been turned upside down. I need something to
go my way.

5. Identity theft is a massive pain

So you're gambling on how clever your theif is.

Cancelling all your cards and changing all your bank accounts is a given.

If you think identity theft is coming and you know he took your SNN, apply for a change in your SSN.

Make sure they didnt take your birth certificate. That's dangerous.

With the car keys, tough call. Make sure you have theft insurance, recent photos, and proof of recent mileage for the most acurate compensation if it does get stolen.

You don't have to leave florida, but definitely look into a different apartment. Try changing the PWs on your E-mail accounts and instant messager services, if it doesn't work, terminate them. Good luck.

been the place for you. Find any city on the way up and look for "Social Services" if you don't have any money.

Go to a church...if you're Catholic a priest will loan you money (really) find a church and keep looking until you find the Priest who will help you from "discresionary fund," or go to a fundie church and swear you are a Freep....just do something to keep yourself going.

That place has been bad news since you got there. Say goodbye the the damned roaches and mold and get the hell out! Milk and "Cheeze toasts w/peanut butter" from Convenience Stores on the road will keep you going. We humans don't need much to live on in the way of food.....and just keep going searching for "Social Services" in the "Yellow Pages" along the way!

Go to the Salvation Army if you get so desperate you have nothing. (Although I know some DU'ers have had some bad experiences with it.....you don't need to be with them that long...you do have your degree....you can get on your feet...but you need help...and with no family or close friends you need it from the "outside." Take it!

I think the other DUers are right--stay somewhere else tonight--the adjuster will certainly understand you not wanting to be there.

Cancel everything.

Get a "Club" for your car, and take the distributor cap or some ignition fuses out every night---it'll make it slightly more difficult to steal, and they probably won't bother.
