Why did 50's era cowboys use there own names? |
|
Saw a Gene Autry movie last night from 1948. Gene plays a cowboy named.... Gene Autry. As I recall Roy Rodgers always was Roy Rodgers... in his movies and TV series.
So why did these cowboys always use there own names (parent given or otherwise) in movies. I mean you would NOT expect Robert Redford to play a character in a movie named Robert Redford, afterall.
BTW, Gene Autry was real short. I'm guessing under 5'8".
