So, my nine year old daughter wants a bra
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 11:43 PM by Not_Giving_Up
"Mommy, how old do I have to be to get a bra?"

I told her that when she gets boobs, she can have a bra. Funny though, I remember those days. I was a late bloomer and convinced my grandmother to buy me a training bra well before I needed one just so that I wouldn't be the only girl without one in my class. Now, I can't
get out of my damn bra fast enough.

until you can take off your bra while staying fully dressed. Truly something to pass on to every generation:).

29. I used to be in a Children's Theatre troupe, and I could
completely change costumes in the car..and no flashing either :)

of course in theatre, you lose your modesty fast.. the stagehands (mostly guys back then) were always happy to help with costume changes between scenes:)

3. Bras are the invention of the devil
If you've got large boobs I'm sure the support is nice but transfering the strain to your shoulders is a bum deal. And don't even get me started on underwire bras - weren't they devised as instruments of torture during the Spanish Inquisition?

The only time I ever had big boobs was when I was breastfeeding, and those hurt!

6. I had boobs when I was 9
Granted they were tiny A-cup boobs but they were boobs nonetheless. I was all thrilled back then but if I knew then what I'd be putting up with now I would have cursed the day they sprouted. I don't understand why women go through surgery to get huge boobs...I'd be glad to get rid of mine!

No sign of boobs any time in the near future. She's also very tiny, people think she's much younger than what she is.

16. I used to HATE my bra...
Back when I first started wearing one. IT drove me insane and I'd rip it off as soon as I came home. Now (thankfully) I've got a little more that needs support, so I keep mine on until just before bed - it hurts to not wear one for too long.

over the summer between fifth and sixth grade, she "blossomed" she had boobs....

What that poor girl went through.....

I hope your daughter doesn't get the "bloom" until she is safely in her teens......

20. I'm hoping the same thing!
You know, men have it easy. They have to talk about hair in places that it wasn't before, and why their little guy is suddenly deciding to stand up, and what to do about it.

Women have to explain boobs and why you'll bleed for seven days straight every month.

IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!!

21. My daughter is three and a half...here is the conversation she had
with my wife the other day.

Setup -- my daughter Leah was rocking her little doll baby in her arms like she was singing it to sleep. My wife walks in...

wife: "Leah, do you need a bottle for your baby?"

Leah: "No mommy, she just takes a few sips off my boobs when she gets
hungry."

My wife said she almost lost it she was laughing so hard.

Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 08:56 AM by SoCalDem
She totally freaked out, and then she saw the blanket move on her 4 yr.old's bed .. She lifted the blanket, and Traci had gotten the baby out of the crib, and was "nursing" him so he wouldn;t wake Mommy up..

She and her husband moved the crib into their room that night, but thanked her for caring for her baby brother..:scared:

I remember reading a while back that due to possible changes in the environment, food, or whatever else, females are undergoing puberty at earlier ages in recent years.

31. I still remember what a big deal it was to get one!
and how unpleasant they were. I hate bras. I much prefer all the other options there are now for "support."

Puberty does start a lot earlier now... pre-adolescence actually can start at age 8 for some kids...!! Certainly the attitude starts pretty early... my son is 9. And he is quite the wise guy.

A friend of mine started her period at age 8. Kids develop so differently. I wanted my bra so bad back then, what I would give now not to have to wear it.

35. Exactly. How fast we wanted to grow up then and
be grown. We wanted to wear make-up, bras, start our menses. What I would give now to take all of those back. I'm like you, as soon as I get in the door, off goes the bra and off comes the make-up.

36. My oldest daughter is 10..
And she started wearing a bra this year (you know the sports bra type trainers). She didn't really need it yet but all her friends are wearing them (they don't need them yet either)and I guess she didn't want to feel left out. Funny thing is, she wears them when her friends are around and can't wait to take it off when they are gone. She's even got the "pull-it-out-the-sleeve" move down.

39. I did stop wearing them
A few years back after my heart attacks. They seemed pointless, and unless I was working, the soldiers didn't need to stand up for the general any more.

When I was working, I used to do the "Catholic girl" bra removal method right after work, in the car going home. Men don't quite understand how we can do it, which is great--keeps a certain mystique!

While I'm not flat or anything, I normally fit into a B cup, so they haven't sagged WAY too horribly. I think if I were bigger, I would have had to keep wearing a bra simply to ease a potentially sore back.

On the other hand, I still never, after nearly 40 years, understood exactly what a "training" bra was training them for.
