Legally my first name is Tre... which no one can pronounce correctly. It was supposed to be Herman but my aunt said that was a terrible thing to do to a child. If I was supposed to be the third Herman, couldn't they just drop the Herman and go with the third? My father holds me responsible for her advice and has probably never forgiven me for it. My mother wanted to name me Christopher and my Dad said he didn't care. But he did.

But I've been going by Khash for years now. I thought about changing it legally. But my mom told me it would hurt my dad.... even if I didn't really bear his name at leat my name acknowledged it. And to change that would be a rejection of him. So I didn't.

So I'll answer to Khash or Chris or Luke (the diminutive of my middle name) or Hermie-baby :)

I had a Catalonian on-line penpal for a while and I picked a little up. It's actually a very nice language and would make a good pan-European Romance language choice for the EU. And, if you know French, Portuguese, or Spanish, it is very easy to learn how to read.

Langue D'Oc is usually called Occitan or Occitanian these days. John Barnes used it extensively in one of his science-fiction stories, in which the protagonist lived as a troubadour in a galactic superculture (A Thousand Open Doors).
