Poll question: You Feel Sorry For Girls Who End Up On The Cover Of "Girls Gone Wild" ?
MSNBC is doing a story on this now.

A guy with a camera walks up to a woman on spring break and asks her to flash him. She does. It ends up on video and she's on the cover.

She gets no money.

Is this right, fair?

1. I feel sorry for their parents and at the same time
wonder what the hell the parents could be thinking raising someone with that little self esteem.

3. Jeff Foxworthy would say "Here's your sign."
If she's that dumb she doesn't deserve any money.

4. If she was that anxious to let out the twins without shame
she should have no shame gracing the cover of a video. Oh, but this isn't about shame, huh? It's about $.

5. I'm torn on this
On one hand, she probably drunk and wouldn't make this decision sober, but on the other hand, she's not being assaulted and we have to be responsible for our own behavior. Sleazy, YES! Fair, probably not. But, legal? Yes, which is all that ultimately matters.
Now as for other topics of female explotation, if I could I would go in and unionize the porn industry for the women who work in it. I like porn, but seldom watch it because it bothers me there's 1.)no profit sharing, 2.) no health benefits, and 3.)no recourse in the event of disease. If there can be a screen actor's guild, why can't there be one for adult films as well?

6. Of course it was fair--she gave everyone on the street a free show,
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 09:45 PM by tjdee
why not pretend that everyone else was on the street too?

I have NO sympathy for those chicks--I say this having indeed flashed 6 or 7 of my friends indoors during a game of Truth or Dare when I was in college. To this day, I don't remember if someone took a picture, or what, and it is a really embarrassing memory. I wasn't even drunk. Sigh. It was a bad night.

But come ON, for pete's sake.

But what are you wondering if its fair? That she ends up on the video/cover, or that she gets no money? I'd say they should get some royalties, but it would get really complicated and those stupid videos would probably have to stop being made.

Heeyyyy....not a bad idea.

7. If you are inebriated/stupid/uninhibited enough ..
to flash your tits to someone, let alone with a camera, without asking for money or some other agreed payment, then you have no right to demand compensation when a video of you pulling up your Hollister tank top is sold to horny college boys and dirty old men around the world.

9. I think they are only pissed about not getting any of the money
Sure, for public consumption the plaintiffs will claim pain and suffering and blah, blah, blah; but it is all about money. If money was not a factor, they would be seeking an injunction.

How about those that bared their breasts during Mardi Grass?

11. I think a lot of her problem with it was that she was on the cover.
If she was just shown in the movie among all the other women, she wouldn't necessarily get noticed individually (and recognized), and the only folks that would see it are those that bother watching the video. But, being on the cover, she is somewhat singled out for notice, and she would more likely be noticed individually and recognized. And she can be seen by people who aren't intending to watch the video: they could see the cover in a video store, and particularly in an ad for the video on TV (or in print).

Mom and dad see the ad and find out what their little girl was doing on vacation. If just one of her friends, teachers, bosses, coworkers see the ad, word will spread (as will the watching of the video among those who know her), and that can cause her problems. Something that she did for two seconds, while drunk and not thinking, will have repercussions. This may not have happened if she was just one of many in the video, but it's a different story when she's featured on the cover.

18. Mommy and Daddy got to see?
GOOD. Idiot move by an idiot. Maybe the parents will see that their little darlin' could use a year off school making change at the Wendy's takeout window before they start up the College Gravy Train again. Could induce some sorely needed humility.

12. So, what happened to release forms?
Last I heard, you can't sell someone's picture without a release.*

Did any of the wild girls sign a release?

If they didn't, every one of them could have a cause of action against this guy.

*The exception to this is when it is "news." News is different than commercial use, as the papparrazi have discovered.

..when I was younger, I used to get drunk and do stupid things, many of which I regretted. I'm just glad noone was filming me as I made an @ss of myself.

14. Odd that this moment of indiscretion will haunt her...
...for the rest of her life. Whether running for political office or returning from combat, her reputation is henceforth vulnerable to anyone who procures the photograph.

Not a wise choice, IMHO, but many people are unwise.

15. You call the tune, you pay the piper
If girls want to get drunk and show their boobs, that is exercising poor judgement under the influence of alcohol.

Who's fault is that?

Their fault. Everybody wants a free pass when they screw up. This is a society full of slackers and shirkers.

No sympathy from me, nope, none.

Idiots. Like I would drop trou for some jerk with a camera.

There isn't enough booze or drugs in the world to make me think something like that is a good idea.

17. hmmmm...
:nopity: She saw the camera, she should understand she will have no control over where her boobies will end up. I don't show my junk to anyone who asks (especially if they have a camera), and I think most people here feel the same.
