So, who has tried Google Talk (Google Instant Message Client)
http://www.google.com/talk

Highly anticipated. Seems pretty cool. Needs the ability to let multiple users chat together, and needs file xfer capability. Any other observations?

2. No offense taken
Perhaps they had a reason for doing it this way. Just seems like such a useful tool though. Anyway, I'll reserve being overly critical as it is only a beta.

4. I'm open to it
As soon as the need arises. I'll tell you one thing though, AOL has LOCK on the 0 - 25 age bracket. I've been sitting behind/next to kids students using their laptops in class, and their lists are hundreds of people long, and they often have 7 or 10 window open at once. People that grew up with IM can multitask like nothing I've ever seen before.

5. Wow, I've never thought of it like that
I got my first ICQ account in 96 when I was in Okinawa. Of course, I was an adult by then. I was in awe of the whole concept. My wife and I would sit there and wait for the next message like children waiting for santa. I think I had about 5 people on my contact list. All coworkers. Most of them I ignored because they irritated me.

There's no way I could manage 7-10 IM windows at work. :)

8. I was you
I'll never forget the first time I ran ICQ, with my headphones up high because I was listening to music, ( this was before the foghorn icq start sound ) and someone on a chat room who told me to install it messaged me and just about blew my eardrums in. From there on, it grew. What's truly amazing, for me, is that I talking to one person, who ended up dating the sister of a girl I ended up talking to many years later. And we were all separated by at least a thousand miles. It was a "oh yeah, I remember than name!". Amazing.

9. Oh, get this...
This was also back in Okinawa. I guess around 97 or 98. I was in a chatroom talking to someone. Long story short, this person lived one street over. We were both American military people on a chatsite that was totally unrelated to the Air Force or the military in general, yet there we were, a street apart thousands of miles from our homes in the states. Wild eh?

10. That's really wide
I know I've heard about gamers playing others in the same college building, but you both being out across the Pacific, that's something special!

7. Yeah, I notice they did color code the smilies though
Not exactly graphically appealing, but perhaps they have something in mind for final release.
