Why should I donate?
This is an enjoyable site, but so are many others.

Why should I choose this one to donate to?

Convince me, and I will.

1. You see that glove that is almost half way to Bush's face?
If you donate it move just a little closer to hitting him. Wouldn't that feel nice?

and , hey, dude, we're totally cool.

I don't know about elsewhere.

If I had the money I'd underwrite David completely. Until then, jeese, help these guys out! The bang for the buck here is awesome

5. I would rather pay for what I want freely
than be forced to pay.

I have that PBS feeling going on.

I love PBS and NPR. I donate every year.

4. Because the people that operate this site

are average joes like the rest of us - that work full time jobs to try and pay the rent AND devote massive amounts of time, effort, and soul into this site for US.

That, my friend, deserves whatever I can give them. This time, that was 5 bucks, last time it was more. I've never donated to any site but DU - but I know how time consuming and expensive it can be to run a little site, let alone something of this magnitude. For the reason I listed above, these guys are deserving of my lil "token" donations :)

6. You don't understand now...
Edited on Mon Nov-10-03 11:05 PM by liberalmuse
but when you get up to 700 posts in no time and find you are addicted, you will. You can experience the workings of a real democracy firsthand by participating in a poll that will help another person here decide what they should snack on. You can read about dildo burnings, as I just did, and then be at a loss for words as to how to respond. Did you know that Bush has about a thousand derogatory nicknames? I didn't, until DU. We've got all the subversion and perversion you need right here, so join up! AND you get a gold star next to your name.

On edit: left out a word.

8. I don't make much money anymore.
Last year I paid taxes on little over $10,000. I gave to DU a nominal amount because of what DU gives me. I get REAL news. I get a community of like thinking people, many of whom are very intelligent and eloquent. I get links to other sources of information. Most of all I know that I am NOT alone in my thinking and views. Sometimes you feel overwhelmed by the insanity and sheer meanness of the current political situation and this place helps to dispel that. For that I believe it is worth a little sacrifice.

14. same here...
I'm living on unemployment and it isn't easy. I get so much back from DU,though, that I wouldn't feel right not making my monthly donation. I get news,opinions,motivation,friendship,humour,support...and most important of all,I can come here and be reminded that not all the people in this country are programmed sheep:)

I mean...the reasons are obvious,are they not?

9. Convince yourself. Are you a committed progressive?
Experience has taught me that everyone here is. Hang around here awhile, get into some of the exhanges, swap thoughts and ideas, rally behind your Democratic candidate. See if you don't get attached to the cameraderie and personalities at DU.

This may indeed be an enjoyable site, but it's not strictly for entertainment -- there is a very specific service being performed here.

If, after awhile, you don't see the value in that, then perhaps you should surf on.

11. Ok, I can list all the moral reasons; but if you want something tangible,
the search function makes it sooooo easy to find the thread you're looking for, or keep track of the posts you've commented on, or gain a little insight into a particular DUer by reading the posts they've composed.

13. Well
Here is their budget http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=691668&mesg_id=691668

And while I have been out of work for 30 months, I have made a token donation in the last raiser and this one. Not a lot but every dollar counts.

15. I've been a message board junky for years...
...and have spent time at many different sites. I've never found an internet community that comes close to what we have here at DU. I've made real and true friends here. When I was in a serious car accident this summer, DUers gave me such amazing support. I got cards, letters, flowers, visits. DUers made sure that my emotional, legal, financial, and medical needs were being met at a very difficult time. It was like having a whole huge second family looking after me.

Also, LBN, and the Articles and Editorials forums are amazing. You can spend half an hour trying to track down info on a particular subject, or you can just go to those forums and 9 times out of 10, the info you're looking for is right there.

DU has been a haven for so many of us for so long, and many people have attributed their continued grip on sanity to this site.

For research and information on under-reported issues, for great articles, for inspiration to act in our daily lives, for amazing friendships, Democratic Underground is it!

Things grow when you invest in them, and if anything deserves investment, it's us.

16. here's a reason..
with as large a community as there is here, virtually any question you have on any topic will have an answer.

other than that.. how else do you combat the vast rightwing conspiracy?

strength in numbers.

more the merrier.
