4. WORDS TO LIVE BY:

In one's life. there are levels in the pursuit of study. In the lowest level, a person studies but nothing comes of it, and he feels that both he and others are unskillful. At this point he is worthless. In the middle level he is still useless but is aware of his own insufficiencies and can also see the insufficiencies of others. In a higher level he has pride concerning his own ability, rejoices in praise from others, and laments the lack of ability in his fellows. This man has worth.

In the highest level a man has the look of knowing nothing.

6. What rock star deserves a punch in the mouth and why?

7. If you could put together an all-star rock band, who would they be?

6. What rock star deserves a punch in the mouth and why? Not exactly a "rock" star but--Michael Jackson. Even if he's not truly guilty of child molestation he's guilty of being a complete idiot. He gets accused of the crime then the charges are dropped. What does he do? He keeps sleeping with young boys!!! He needs a kick in the ass rather than a punch in the mouth.

7. If you could put together an all-star rock band, who would they be? David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Bono and Rick Allen

40. Better late answering than never, I guess
1. Parsifal by Wagner a couple of years ago. Can you think of a better way of spending 6 hours of a Sunday after/evening? I certainly can't.

2. The list would be constantly changing......at the moment

A C.D. with the Messes Solennelles by Vierne and Langlais, plus some organ works by the latter (I can't remeber the formal title of the C.D., and it's at home not here).

A compilation of Bach's best organ works - this would have to be selected by me, as I tend to disagree violently with other folk's choices of what are the best.

William Byrd, Mass for 4 voices, Mass for 5 voices, and Infelix Ego.

A wonderful C.D. I have (again I forget the name) with mystic minimalist stuff - Paert, Tavener, Gorecki and a couple of other chaps.

Something lighter - I'm torn between an ultra-trashy C.D. I have of music by Sir Arthur Sullivan and one of French jazz that I have.

3. "Do you know where the bell tower is?" - a short explanation, I was walking through St. Mark's Square, the bell-tower (not an inconspicuous building) was litterally fewer than 20 feet away, and an American tourist asked me this. :banghead: To my dear American D.U. friends, please don't do such silly things, it makes the rest of the world think that you're all nutcases.

4. Gin, lace and back-biting (with double points to anybody who can tell me to what they refer).

5. I always refuse to accept compliments - usually defusing them with self-depricating humour.

6. Most of them - for being tools of the corporate manipulation and degredation of culture.

7. Wouldn't I have to know some rock-stars to be able to answer that question? The guitarist chap from Queen always seemed to be quite a good fellow - I'll have to add in chaps from The Clash to keep J.J. from killing me too.

43. Great answers. I don't get any bonus points, though - I don't
know the reference in #4. And, as for having to add chaps from the Clash, I have to tell you that they were not the world's greatest musicians. Paul was brought into the band because he was good looking, Joe - well, what other rhythm guitarist plays his instrument at 10 times the pace of the rhythm? :P Mick and Topper were pretty good, but no where near the calliber of some of the people others have mentioned on their wish list. But, I do appreciate you thinking of me in your answer :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

46. It's an incredibly obscure reference
But one which always brings a wry smile to those about whom it was written (myself included) - I doubt that it has crossed the Atlantic much at all (though I can think of a couple of places in N.Y. and Philadelphia where it might have some resonance). It will be interesting to see if anybody does spot it.

42. OK
1. Like arena-sized concert? Erm...U2, Seattle Kingdome

2. Can I just bring my iPod instead? :P

3. I'm having difficulty recalling at present. :(

4. Treat people like you would have them treat you.

5. If I had to kill and butcher my own meat, I'd be a vegetarian.

6. I guess Ted Nugent is still a rock star in some folks' minds. He deserves a punch in the mouth because he's a right-wing, mysoginistic bag of shit.

7. I'm horrible at coming up with answers to questions like these. :(

1. Name your favorite concert.

Exodus, Pantera, and Suicidal Tendencies @ The Ritz, NYC

2. What five CDs would you take with you if you were going to be stranded on a desert island?

Aenima, Animals, Rants in E Minor, The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon

3. What’s the dumbest question you have ever been asked?

Can you give me a list of the things your software doesn't do? Thanks.

4. WORDS TO LIVE BY:

Don't fuck it up.

5. Tell us something that no one knows about you?

You'll have to define "No one" because I can't be sure that nobody saw.... That being said, for DU purposes, there was one time I set off an M80 in the bottom of a stairwell in Middle High School during class change, you should've heard the echo. And the screaming.

6. What rock star deserves a punch in the mouth and why?

Mick Jagger. 2 reasons. One, because I said so. Two, for those ticket prices.

7. If you could put together an all-star rock band, who would they be?

Maynard James Keenan on vocals, Dave Lombardo on drums, Dave Mustaine on guitar and backup vocals, Kirk Hammet on lead guitar, Les Claypool on Bass

45. Here you go:
1. It's a tie between Willie Nelson, Bonnie Rait, Allman Brothers
2. Tom Petty, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Rait, Green Day
3. This one (j/k can't think of one now)
4. Live this day like it is the last day (tell your loved ones how
you feel)
5. I am obsessive about sweeping my ceramic tiled house
6. Any teeny-bop rock star of today b/c their music sucks
7. Stevie Ray Vaughn (vocals and guitar), Billy Joel (only for his
piano ability) and I need to think about the rest for a while.
That is a tough question.

47. lessee...
1. Name your favorite concert.
"George."

2. What five CDs would you take with you if you were going to be stranded on a desert island?
Not that I imagine having electricity, being stranded and all; but today I'd pick:
The Gun Club "The Fire of Love"
Love "Forever Changes"
Neutral Milk Hotel "In the Aeroplane over the Sea"
Pixies "Surfer Rosa"
and the Anthology of American Folk Music (yeah, I know, that's cheating)

3. What’s the dumbest question you have ever been asked?
This one.

4. WORDS TO LIVE BY:
An Irishman's never drunk so long as he can hold on to a single blade of grass and not fall off the face of the earth.

5. Tell us something that no one knows about you?
I am currently a little chilly.

6. What rock star deserves a punch in the mouth and why?
Anton Newcomb. Because his band sucks AND he's an asshole. Okay, to be fair, he's nothing resembling a "star" -- still.

7. If you could put together an all-star rock band, who would they be?
Oh, dear. I dunno. Too early in the morning to think. Pass.

48. Let's See...
1. Name your favorite concert.
It's a three way tie.
Frank Zappa-New York City, Halloween 1979?
Miles Davis-The Frog and The Nightgown, Winston-Salem, NC. 1976?
It was perfect. A small jazz club, very intimate but I couldn't believe there were only 50-60 people there
St. Louis Symphony Orchestra/Max Rudolph conducting, 1982?
Max Rudolph was ancient when he conducted this concert. He was, like Erich Leinsdorf, trained in the German opera house and was so masterful in his readings of the canon of the German composers. There were two pieces on the concert; Beethoven 6 and Brahms 3. I heard things in the concert I'd never heard before and have never heard since.

2. What five CDs would you take with you if you were going to be stranded on a desert island?
Miles Davis-Birth of the Cool
Bartok Concerto for Orchestra-Reiner & the Chicago Symphony
Nancy Griffith-Other Voices Other Rooms
Doc Watson-Elementary Dr. Watson
Beethoven-Complete Symphonies-George Szell/Cleveland Orch.

3. What’s the dumbest question you have ever been asked?
Is that really your wife?

4. WORDS TO LIVE BY:
"We make our fate and call it fortune" Benjamin Disraelli

5. Tell us something that no one knows about you?
I had an affair with the wife of a college professor. She was nutty and unstable but it was my own Mrs. Robinson moment.

6. What rock star deserves a punch in the mouth and why?
DK

7. If you could put together an all-star rock band, who would they be?
I'll show my age now. Cream.

51. Thanks for the welcome
Although I've been around since shortly after 9-11 and even had a couple of hundred posts, my original information was lost durring a site upgrade and I never bothered to register again.
I figured that since I wasn't doing anything at work lately I might as well do something productive with my time.

61. Here goes
1. Name your favorite concert. Rainbow before Joe Lynn Turner came in and fucked up the band.

2. What five CDs would you take with you if you were going to be stranded on a desert island? Best of Rainbow, best of Deep Purple, best of BTO, best of Rush (up to and including Permanent Waves), best of Queensryche. I would make the compliations myself to keep out the crap.

3. What’s the dumbest question you have ever been asked? "Are we having fun yet?"

4. WORDS TO LIVE BY: Never marry someone you can live with. Marry someone you can't live WITHOUT.

5. Tell us something that no one knows about you? I briefly dated the granddaughter of a 1960's TV star.

6. What rock star deserves a punch in the mouth and why? Ted Nugent. I'm pro-gun, but not pro-hunting, and he's too fucking smug when talking about his kills. I grudgingly admit to liking his music, though.

7. If you could put together an all-star rock band, who would they be? Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Geoff Tate on vocals, Neil Peart on drums, Billy Sheehan on bass.
