Pity Party in THIS Thread! I keep seeing DEAD PEOPLE!!!
Six funerals in six and a half weeks -- I'm funeraled OUT!!!

Great Uncle Roy, age 94: WWII Vet, Funny Guy, Celebrated his 75th and 80th Birthdays by bicycling from the Upper Peninsula (in Michigan for those not from the area) TO FLORIDA!!! Still biking 15 miles a day the week he passed.

Step-Mom-in-Law's Father-in-Law, age 88: WWII Vet, volunteer fireman, engineer, and from the stories at the funeral, a very nice man. (I never met him; we were there to be supportive.)

Andy Stephenson, age 43: Still the hardest, and hurts the most....

Mom's Tenant, age 51: Poor health, but a sweet disposition, cardiac arrest during kidney dialysis. Two days of hunting down her next of kin (they hadn't spoken in three years!), only to have the B*TCH accuse my mother of STEALING A RING FROM THE DEAD WOMAN!!! Rumor has it the money was left to someone other than the sister, and after the crappy funeral her sister put on, I'm okay with that -- GRRR!

Husband's Good Friend's Baby Brother, age 18: Graduated from high school this year, partied with drugs and alcohol on a canoe trip, and never woke up. Played poker with the hubby a lot. Apparently the drugs were a new thing in his life, because his family had no clue....Heartbreaking....

My (half) sister's Aunt, age 50: Nice lady, with a "God speaks TO ME" thing. Apparently God forgot to mention the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, which include pain/numbness in your left arm, and nausea, all of which she was experiencing for FOUR DAYS before the full blown cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, her religion has one of those "pray hard and it will go away" things, and she died in the ambulance. She might be in heaven now, but as an ex-instructor for the American Red Cross, I'm kind of annoyed at the "misreading" of God's signals. Sigh....

So, I feel bad for the ones who died (especially the death by stupidity folks), and the loved ones they've left behind, but right now, I'm also feeling sorry for me for having to deal with all of this.

(Did I mention the funeral luncheon for the Aunt was just at my house yesterday? I was a little nervous about it, but they were all very nice!)

I thought last year was bad -- a sister, a great-aunt, and my favorite aunt, with the topper of burying my dad this March -- but this is officially "the summer of death" for me.

And worst of all, my nineteen year old cat is looking bad, and I'm afraid to take him to the vet for fear of what he's going to say.

Sniff. :hide:

1. OH, my GOD. I'm sorry. That sucks so much.
I'm all about accepting death and grieving and moving on, but--!! That's a lot of suffering and aggravation you've had to witness and endure there. My condolences, fellow poster.

4. Thank you. I've been doing my best to be supportive to the ones
who are REALLY suffering, but every now and then, its time for a "poor me" moment, and I was having one earlier. It seems like TOO MUCH lately, and I want to be done with them now. (Whimper...)

2. I feel bad for you IdaBriggs
that's a lot of death around you. Maybe it'l settle down for you now.

I had a dream the other night about my dead husband (maybe it was a visit), he passed almost two years ago. Anyway in my dream he was mad at me, he was looking for one of his dress shirts that I gave to our son to wear recently (no, I still haven't gotten rid of his things), and I remember asking in my dream "what did you expect me to do, you're dead". Thats all I can remember, I just thought it was strange I would dream about him and your post made me think of that.

5. Thank you. I hope you are right.
I'm so sorry about your husband; can I ask what happened? That is also an interesting dream. My mom has been having some trouble because my dad (in his last days) asked her not to ever remarry, and she is the type of person who believes in keeping your promises. I reminded her that what he was really trying to say was "don't forget me" with the practical "you'd better just live in sin, because otherwise you'll lose the pension" and it seemed to cheer her up a little! :)

24. he had had heart surgery about a year before he died
went in as out patient to have stents done. But when they did catherization, they found a bad valve. During surgery he had a heart attack. He survived for about a year, but he needed a new heart and didn't get one in time. He died peacefully in his sleep one night.

the pension and all. Mine didn't ask me not to get married again, but I don't think I will.. It was just strange, the timing of the dream and all, (I had also been thinking about becoming more intimate with a friend) it was just like him to feign anger about something and not tell me what was really bothering him. BTW.. we're neighbors.. I spend a lot of time in the Waterford area my Aunt lives in the Scott Lake Rd area and I bowl at Airway on Wednesdays.

14. It was bad. It was a religious whack job troll, if that helps.
One who liked to use nasty words. The type of filth that makes you want to start a crusade against the "christians" and feed a few to the lions, if you know what I mean! (shudder)

22. Me, too. Another board I admin for has a "Spammer Slammer"
which is a section where troll posts are moved (rather than deleted), and we get to tear strips off them without clogging up the other forums. It's fun, and you'd be real surprised how long the trolls stick with it when we do.

You'd probably like this place, by the way; you seem like someone who has some community spirit. It's http://www.causs.org if you want to check it out.

20. I dunno what to say 'cept sorry to hear about all the death
that seems to be surrounding you this summer. Hopefully your cat will live a lot longer. I have the same dread about my cat. I know she's old, but she's the best friend I have ever had. I hope she makes it as long as your kitty has.

21. Thank you for your support.
Storm is my baby; the vet can't believe he's as old as he is (even though he's pretty much been going to the same guy forever). He's getting crotchety, though, and I am officially regretting not declawing him as he CLAWS his way everywhere due to the arthritis. But I still love him....

23. If you could see my furniture. My Sunday has been so sick with this
inflammed bowel disease that she has. I just have a hard time fussing at her. I know she's getting arthritic too. She's 12 and will be 13 in October. Here's to many healthy happy years together for both of us with our pets. :toast:

28. you seem to have too many connections to the world
if such a thing is possible. At least some of those people were well advanced in age. I see dead people every day as I dig into family history. In fact, sometimes I cannot get information on them unless they are dead. The privacy of the living must be protected. In fact, because I just now saw your username, I have been searching on my Briggs line for the last couple hours. Richard Briggs and Mercy Kingsbury, but they are people that I have never known as living. Still, I too often reflect on mortality.

I think I have only been to 4 funerals in my 43 years. Our family is so far away, and I have moved too much myself to have alot of close friends. Hopefully you will not keep the one a week pace.
