1. Manufacturing error?
Like the missing captions on the first printing of the reissue of "This Is Spinal Tap"?

2. That could be
But there's not even an option for it on the menus.

The first four all had subtitles. Hell, pretty much every DVD has subtitles.

I don't get it...

3. Just found this on Usenet...
There's a few threads about it in alt.tv.simpsons, I think.

"The subtitles should be there - I investigated what you meant, and it looks
like those episodes just have the direct subtitle chooser disabled (i.e.
you can't hit the "subtitle" button to cycle through them, or whatever
method a particular player might have). This is not uncommon, especially
when there's branching (the deleted scenes) going on - though I'm not sure
why it actually has to be done like that. (Anyone?)
In any case, you should be able to turn on the subtitles. They're in the
menu system, but a little hard to find at first, if you only want to change
the subtitles. Go to language options and select your language, then it
brings up the subtitle menu. (Usually there's a choice to go straight to
subtitles, even though it does seem redundant...at least you know they're
there.) Alternately, while playing the episode, choose the subtitle menu,
if you have this capability (in WinDVD, I can right-click and the "Menu"
item lists whatever is available: title menu, root menu, chapter, audio,
subtitles); or if you like, start playing an episode with no deleted
scenes, choose your subtitles, and you're set for the duration of your
session (this won't work on disc 1, as they all have them, and it's also
kind of stupid)."

4. Thanks!
I hadn't tried clicking on the language thing. I just gave up when I didn't see the subtitle option there.

Woo hoo!! I will go try it now.
