Hi Dad. Happy Veterans Day.
I know that it has been a long time since you passed away and sometimes days like this tended to be rather somber. Still, I do happen to think of you often even without days like this.

I guess I have to regard you in many ways as a special breed of man. You got shot while parachuting into hostile territory back in World War Two. You got a Purple Heart when I think you should have had a purple testicle after you got one of them shot by enemy gunfire.

Still, that one testicle, your left one I might add, was enough to sire five children, including twins in your late in 40's.

I am sure that you can imagine that it's just as well you are not here on this earth, given all of the events that had transpired the last few years. Do I have the kind of strength and character that you hand? I can only hope that I least have some measure of in my veins, though I happen to think so especially when one has a father who could be so masculine even after losing one of his stones.

At any rate we will see each other again. As a veteran, I will see to it that when it comes time for me pass, that my remains weak placed in the same cemetery and has your own.

In the meantime when I well make it a point to frame a certificate honoring your life and the sacrifices that you have made as a veteran. I can't help but smile when I see who signed it: William Jefferson Clinton.

Happy Veterans Day, Dad.

Your son and fellow vet:

John.

2. Beautifully written, John. Thanks for posting this...
My late father also was a vet who served in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He's been gone many years now, but I still miss him.

Please know that I appreciate your father's above-and-beyond efforts, and the sacrifice he made for us all.

They don't make good men quite like this anymore.

All best to you --

3. Great post, John. My certificate is signed by Clinton too
I am so glad I did not stay in for another hitch. I would not have the thing framed on the wall with *'s signature on it.

4. Thinking of my dad on Veteran's Day.
World War 2 vet who wouldn't talk about it. Devoted Grandfather of Vikas, devoted husband (very much so) and father.

We'll talk later this morning, Dad.

Thanks for the reminder of what this day is really about.

Also, a nod to those in harm's way today. May your CSD (chosen spiritual divinity) bless you and keep you well, and may we see you safely home soon.
