Diana and Dodi statue to be unveiled at Harrod's |
|
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/08/24/uk.dianastatue.ap/LONDON, England (AP) -- A statue of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed, who died together in a Paris car crash in 1997, will soon be displayed at Harrods department store in central London, owner Mohamed al Fayed says.
The work commissioned by al Fayed shows the couple, who were on vacation together when they died, holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes beneath a soaring albatross -- a symbol of eternity and good fortune.
Diana is wearing a dress with a plunging neckline, while Dodi's shirt is unbuttoned to reveal a bare chest.<<<<<more>>>>>> Can we all say "FRICKING TACKY!!!!"

2. Fayed should be ashamed. I feel so sorry for her sons and family. |
|
That statue is beyond tacky and it's disrespectful to the memory of Diana. :(

If there were statues commerating every guy she slept with, you would not be able to walk through the city of London without running into one at every turn:evilgrin:

You would not be able to walk thru the City of London anymore:evilgrin:
But it's not my business. I don't know what I'm doing here-one moment I was out drinking with Chris Hitchens...

6. It is kind of an in your face move towards Charles |
|
I still think the big-eared fool had something to do with her death. Not that I have any proof, but british royals have been known to kill some inconvenient spouses or relatives over the centuries.
Henry II had his best friend, Beckett, killed (in the cathedral, no less). There were rumors that Beckett and Eleanor of Aquitane (Henry's wife) had been lovers, although it was really mostly motivated by church/state troubles.
Richard III killed his brother, several politicians, his own nephews and various others to make his path to the throne clear.
Henry VII killed Richard III to get the throne.
Henry VIII killed two wives for alleged infidelity, although Anne Boleyn was most likely innocent.

7. I don't think the behaviour of mediaeval royals is necessarily |
|
any kind of evidence of nefarious activities by their modern counterparts...!

8. It's that little mentioned Pre Nuptual Agreement that she signed |
|
which has been religiously excised from UK history.
She knew exactly what the score was.
The only time she referred to it in opublic was during that Taj Mahal photoshoot when she said she didn't think she would EVER be queen.
Her BBC interview when she said "there were three of us in that marriage" didn't just mean the menage-a-trois with Charles's strumpets...

It's been nearly 10 years since they died and Mohammed Al Fayed is now doing this?
And I thought the giant pictures of Diana and Dodi were in poor taste.
Harrod's is quite nice to shop at though.
