Damn it!!!!!!!!!
So, I'm enjoying my morning tea. Suddenly it occurs to me that my tea isn't usually so crunchy. I spit the offending bits in my hand trying to figure out what the hell they are. Then a sudden pain in my mouth tells me this isn't going to be good.

What I'm holding is, or rather was, my tooth. Well, part of it. The other tongue-shredding, jagged bit of bastard half-molar is still in my head! And I think I swallowed another tiny piece.

Lacking the funds to do jack-shit about this, I'm just going to have to get used to it for a while. Damn it!

I want to go back to bed

1. Ouch!
You really should go to the dentist. I understand the lack of funds and all, but don't they have a payment plan?

5. The dentist I used to go to won't help.
They turned me down on their payment plan for getting my root canal crowned -- they use a credit approval plan. Maybe I can call around and see what I can find. I would have to find someone who would do it for no money down. I've got nothing this week (rough patch.)

I may be able to do something in a couple of weeks, and I'm sure I can tough it out until then. Just a bit frustrating.

Thanks for the sympathy. :)

2. I have been in your shoes. You should ...
Go to your dentist. Broken and exposed teeth can be dangerous, as they can get infected and all that.

Many dentists are more than happy to work out a payment plan for you. In this day and age, you're certainly not the only person who can't afford their services out of pocket. Any decent medical professional would make you the priority, rather than the cash.

3. No shit
I've been there. Akoto is right. If you put it off it will cost more. A thought-is there a school of dentistry in a university near you? good work, takes longer, sliding scale.

4. That is also a great suggestion, miss_kitty.
Schools of dentistry will often do repair work (or extractions, if that ends up being the case) at a reduced charge. It's a learning experience for their students.

12. Yea. They might even offer to do it for free, if they need it for
their exam.

14. ...and they do GREAT work!
It can be slow, unfortunately because they are being supervised by te

achers and that sort of thing. But I've heard good things about having work done at dental schools.

Don't let the fact that it is a school deter you (if there is one near you, or within driving distance).

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I've had that happen a couple of times. Unfortunately, the second time it happened, I didn't have insurance either, and had to let it slide. The nerve died, and turned into a costly root canal. :(

7. I'll check.
I'm not sure if there are any in town, but there may be one close. Thanks for the advice.

6. Thanks. I'm going to make some calls
and see what I can find out. I haven't had luck in the way of "decent medical professionals" in the past, but maybe I'll luck into something. I'll check into the dental schools, if there are any nearby, too.

8. Good
I blame my inability to pay for a tooth that packed it in on my cancer (located at the end of my digestive system)...really I do-I realise there are many aspects involving the onset of cancer, but I think harbouring a tooth infection for two years made it hard on my body to recognise and fight the cancer. My medical team thinks I'm nuts to think this, but the timing was right, and British medicos tend to agree with my cockamamie theory.

Also, if your tooth broke, chances are it was cracked and leaking, hon.
I'd consider this a healthcare priorty. :hi: good luck!

9. Thanks!
Sorry to hear about what you've been through. I hope your health is rapidly improving.

You know, when you said "leaking" it made me wonder if this is why I've had a metallic taste in my mouth for the last week. I told my doctor about it, but he didn't think it was anything to be concerned about. Now I wonder...

Thanks again. :)

10. Yes it probably was
but stuff leaks in and causes more decay in places you can't see.
you may have had some hot or cold sensitivity recently with that tooth or area of your mouth-hot sensitivity is worse-can't remember why. :scared:

11. No hot/cold sensitivity as of yet...
but I do worry about getting an abscess. My friend just told me her abscess horror story, so I'm really going to try to get this taken care of as soon as possible. She scared me :scared:

The fact that I've been in the exact same position won't make you feel much better. Wish I had the where-with-all just to gift it.

19. You're a sweetie.
Thanks for the hug! I'm lucky that it's not extremely painful. If it weren't for the jagged edge and the metallic taste, it wouldn't bother me too much.

It happens

Check to see if there is a local dental school - might be able to get some inexpensive work done there

17. Apply garlic to the offending member.... thusly.
http://www.garlic-central.com/toothache.html

You probably won't find raw garlic in your dentist's surgery - but it has long had a place in lore for the treatment of toothache. The great Hippocrates recommended garlic for tooth ache, although to be honest he recommended garlic for almost everything! Whilst some folklore talks of applying garlic externally it is unlikely that this would provide any immediate relief. Most traditional uses of garlic to alleviate toothache suggest crushing it (to release the allicin) and placing it inside the mouth, next to the tooth. Sometimes the garlic is used in conjunction with cloves or clove oil.

18. Not a bad idea. I use raw garlic for all sorts of things.
It helps with my sinus infections. Heck, I'll give it a try.
