I don't like to come into the lounge and complain. Unfortunately, I need to let this rant out and I can't do it anywhere else.
My car payment is due today and I can't pay the whole thing. I phoned the bank and explained that I would make a money transfer today for X amount of the payment. I would then pay the remainder on next Friday.
This is the first for me to make a late payment. I didn't expect it would cause that much of an uproar. I was wrong.
I had to be switched to a supervisor-type person. First they wanted to set me up on a payment plan. I explained that I was only going to be a week late. She said, "What type of a lender would we be if we let our customers repay loans whenever it was convenient to them?" I was dumbfounded. I couldn't speak. The lady went on to set up this complex repayment of payment schedule. I agreed to it, even tho if I follow it, this payment wouldn't be complete for three months.
:wtf:

2. The people at the bank are brain dead and they do not know how..... |

to deviate from the script. Customer service in general has reached an all time low when it comes to SERVICE!

3. What a drag. What a drag. |

So, even though you can make the payment a week late, they'd prefer you to follow their three-month payment plan?
That's ridiculous. I wonder if there are additional service charges in their plan.
Hang in there.

4. If your own plan will complete the payment in a week |
|
do it.
Complain to the bank in person when you can do so in a calm even manner. If you have been a customer awhile, they will probably reverse any penalties you incurred for sinning against the God of Mammon, this one time.
In the meantime, deny yourself some treats, some nights out and get yourself a little money stash you can use in these cases so you never have to prostrate yourself to these Spawn of Satan ever again.

5. Banks are the devil incarnate. |

Your mistake was calling them to tell them you'd be making a late payment. They see your attempt at honesty and responsibility as a sign of weakness and think their only option is to treat you as patronizingly as possible.
Cheer up, CornField. I have experienced this same crap while trying to deal uprightly with banks, and I'm sure we are not alone.
And next time, just send the damn payment late. So what if they whack you with late fees. They're still probably doing that, plus you had to deal with their BS corporate attitude. :puke:

6. To play the devil's advocate . . . |

From a purely business and contractual standpoint, it would probably be irresponsible (or at least sloppy) for the bank to make a casual, verbal agreement with you to make a late payment next Friday. I'm sure they have procedures they must follow to cover their behind. In the long run, it may even help you.

8. if you are calm enough, |
|
call back and ask to speak to THAT person's supervisor. Try and explain the situation as reasonably and calmly as possible- often times it helps to say, "I'm sorry, I realize you are only doing your job, but I have been a loyal patron of yours, and I'm trying to do my best to honor my commitment to you. This is the first time I've ever had a problem like this, and it's important to me that you understand I take this very seriously, otherwise, I'd simply "blow it off" and just pay it late".
I've found that the more we can see the person on the other end of the line as 'humans' just puttin in their time- the easier it is to be ..gentle??? although i think that response you got would have pushed my buttons- some folks take their grouchies to work and dump them on anyone in their way- Try and skip her- and start fresh.
That's what i'd do. And usually folks are fine when you explain you are calling BECAUSE you want to keep a good relation, and are not a 'dead-beat'.
good luck- been there so very many times myself- and it really bites.
