Ambitious, career-driven moms, check in!
Let's have a pow-wow.

How do you find a balance?

Is there a balance?

How involved are your husbands?

5. How about ambitious, career-driven and trying to get pregnant?
Does that count? :)

I'm not sure how it will all pan out, but if I get into the PhD program, as to be hoped, I should have more time at home the first 6 years, so childcare will be less of an issue. Though, I will still be incredibly busy.

Cake? Check.
Desire to eat it to? Check.

6. I had thought about PhD work...
but I haven't worked (formally) now in a few years and I'm itching for a real paycheck once more. I'm finishing my Master's this year.

Education always is an option.

7. I work from home full time
three kids, FIL lives here, traveling husband, who is very helpful when he is home.

Not my first profession. I taught high school and college for a while, and then after getting my PhD practiced therapy.

For me, after the kids, the therapy was a problem because most of my clients were adolescents and could only be seen in the late afternoon or early evenings.

Not very conducive to a quiet family life.

My job is pretty flexible, which allows me to do a lot of volunteer work, which is important to me.

I wouldn't say at this point that I am career driven, just sort of along for the ride. I like what I do and it is perfect for the time and place I am in.

8. Havng the ambition is key.
I worked as a babysitter for a family where the husband and wife were both successful professionals, participated actively in civic life, AND were great parents to 2 wonderful kids - both of whom are proud liberals, I might add! They had a wonderful family life and continue to be a close family even though the kids are grown.

I must admit, I was constantly amazed at how busy they were. At the time, I felt like I wouldn't want a life like that, but now that I'm in a master's program AND thinking about having kids, I'm beginning to realize that they were great role models and it can be done.
