SHIT - I'm freaking out. I can't find Althea :( :( :( |
|
I hope she's just hiding somewhere, but I can't find her and it's scaring the crap out of me.
AND, my main goal for the move may not have been accomplished, I can STILL hear my goddamn neighbors

1. she'll show up I'm sure.... |
|
Cats hate moving even more than humans do. She's probably stressed out by all the activity and weirdness. Don't worry-- she WON'T run away or anything like that.

2. Cats who get frightened |

go into quiet mode. Best bet is to put out Althea's favorite treats and wait. If you think Althea has strayed outside, use a live trap with treats inside to get her.

3. If you have a desk, check the drawers... |
|
Tootsie has the ability to open desk drawers, crawl in the drawer and pull the thing closed. We couldn't find her for three days once, right after we got her. She was obviously coming out at night, but by the time daylight rolled around, she was well hidden again.

I consider it to be a magical ability that cats have. It baffles me and I've owned cats my entire life.
One of mine was missing once and it was found a couple of days later - he had manged to get himself nailed into the place next door's basement while the handyman was doing repairs on the place!
Someone lucky heard a faint meowing in the night. Luckily we found him the next day. *whew*

5. Look behind the refrigerator |
|
By the coils...I had a cat that went there after a move. The same cat, after another move, ripped a hole in the muslin under a box spring and crawled in....another time she ended up getting nailed into a void in a subfloor (had to pull it up to get her out--she was called "The Cat of Amontillado" evermore!!!!).
She was rather skittish...paid off, though, she lived to be 22.

16. Mine hid behind the fridge when I first got her |
|
She wasn't eating, so I had to push her out from behind there so she would eat.
For about a week, she was hiding a lot.

18. My cat has ripped a hole in that too. |

I couldn't figure out why the bed was shaking. I think he goes in there and hides during the day.

6. she is likely scared and hiding |
|
You won't find her but she'll suddenly emerge I bet. Try not to worry - she is probably hiding out somewhere until she has a chance to check thing out and be certain she is safe.
Get some cat treats and rattle the package and keep calling her name. She will hear you wherever she is. She'll know you are trying to find her. Maybe she'll come out.
Try not to panic and take care!

you might want to go to your old neighborhood and look around. She'll probably turn up though. Try not to worry too much.

9. URGENT.. Try to calm down. She knows you are freaked! |
|
Sit in the middle of the room with an open can of tuna quietly. Cross your legs and close your eyes. She'll come to you when you are calm.
Always remember if you are packing for a move. Put the kitties in a small room or bathroom; better yet kennels.
That way you can do what you need to do without worrying about them.
Plus the cats won't get worried when they see the packing.

14. We have a cat named Althea too. |
|
One of our cats hid in our old place when we moved. We never did figure out where she was hiding. Everything was out of the house already. My GF just put a sleeping bag on the floor and put some cat food next to it and waited for her to come out.
In the new house, they hid behind open doors among other places.

My cat has an uncanny ability of giving me a panic attack time from time too..then she'll show up, just like that, as if nothing had happened.
edit: And aha!!..just saw your other post. So glad you found her! :)
