Back when I was drinking, this whole martini thing was so our parents......

How times have changed.....

We've talked of many things in our very brief time of getting to know each other ...

Stories about my parents; my childhood have not been a part of 'getting to know you'. I'll share only a little of what it was like to grow up as an only child watching everyone drink as part of their everyday life. In short - it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either, I was the only sober person in the house on nights and weekends. I became the 'adult, the voice of reason' at the age of 9 when I left my aunt's home in Tennessee and returned to my home in Georgia.

When I was 14, I watched my first stepmother die a horrible death from complications caused by alcoholism. She passed away at 49 from cirrhosis of the liver.

My father became 'a friend of Bill' at the age of 50, sadly the damage of drinking daily, days starting his mornings off from work with a beer buzz before breakfast ... ended his life at 52.

Apple Martinis, Apeach and OJ are replaced by ginger ale or an O'doul'S on most of my days. I drink but unlike my functioning alcoholic parents ... I do know 'when to stop, when to say No'.
