How long have you been on DU?

Just a curiousity question....I've been lurking on DU since day 1 (that horrible January day back in '01)...didn't start posting til much later....and its hard to believe but in a few months we will be starting on year #3!!

Anyhow how long have you been here...either posting or quietly observing??

7. Interesting Poll

I started searching the web after 2000 election but it was a couple of months until I discovered DU. I found Democrats.com first then heard about Buzzflash on C-Span from there I discovered lots of sites including DU. I didn't start posting untill 9-11 and was immediately kicked off for being a disrupter though I didn't even know what a disrupter was. Funny thing though I checked my profile and saw my tombstone and went back to the forum and was allowed to post again. :crazy: Don't understand why. Never changed my profile. Anyway it has been a long and sometimes hard road on these forums and I miss many posters who are no longer with us. I have been in a few tussles here and there but overall we have a really great community here. Everyone needs to remember we all have our bad days.

It would have been the Monday after Skinner was phone interviewed on Washington Journal. It was a Saturday morning when the moderators were interviewing folks who ran political websites. Skinner was interviewed on a Saturday, and i signed on the next Monday.

That had to be around early Feb of 2001, so we're time aligned, it would seem.

26. I found DU back when * was running his mouth about

(not verbatim, certainly) "not believing the rumors and gossip on the internet about the administration."

I NEVER cared for how the 2000 election went down, but at that time I didn't bother voting because I just didn't have the energy to care. I was too busy holing myself up in my room doing nothing when I wasn't at work.

But, when I saw on the news how * was trying to dissuade people from checking out other information sources, it convinced me that there was just too much good information floating around out there to pass up. I don't remember exactly what order I found the sites in, but I did a google about "Bush" and "conspiracies" and I seem to remember the Grudge Report (which completely made up my mind that something was VERY wrong with the entire handling of 9/11), Buzzflash and a number of other sites showing up. Either DU was one of those sites, or I found a link from somewhere else. In any case, I was just thrilled to find a forum where so many people thought along basically the same lines that I did.

Thanks to this site, I was happy to get out and vote for the first time in 2002, at the age of 33. But, I'm hoping that someday I'll be able to do more than that. When time, resources and health permit, I hope to be able to do more and accomplish more so that we can get rid of all the pigs who are in office right now. And, I must add that it's SOOOOOO fun to be able to effectively argue with the co-workers I have who are just so unabashedly ignorant about what's really going on.

When I'm not gaming on the computer, this is the website I spend the most time on by far. I'm glad I found this place and I think I'd be lost without it. Keep up the good work, everyone!

during dubyas inauguration...all of the protester, "hail to the thief" signs, bushes angry glares into the crowd..and then this banner....www . democraticunderground . com ...i dont remember the exact date i started posting, but it wasn't long after that. it was so nice to find a site where i felt at home...for gods sake, i had only posted on pro wrestling boards untill then, and those boards were growing more and more freeperish.....thanks earlg, skinner and elad for keeping this board open to all of us...you have been a godsend in these dark times...

I had been lurking since May or June of that first year, when a friend sent me the link to the Top 10 Idiots list, and I was hooked. I usually read the articles and the new Top 10's, but I never bothered to post until I found myself with a plethora of free time in the wake of a major job loss after 9-11.

Finding DU was the happiest of accidents, or was it just happy fate? ;-) I found the love of my life here, and I still get to indulge my lifelong addiction to history and politics on these pages.
