Did you see the documentary Grizzly Man?
I just saw a bit about this on IFC, seemed interesting so I googled it, and found some reviews and information on the film.

The subject matter and film seems rather odd and unsettling--just wondered if any DU'ers saw this and what your impressions were.

Anyone?

1. I saw something about him on 20/20 or Dateline
It gave me nightmares. Don't know if I could handle the documentary, although I heard the director, Herzog, being interviewed on the Terry Gross show and it sounded great.

3. The director chose not to put the audio of the man's death on film
thankfully. He said that one, out of respect for the family's of the deceased, and two he said then he would have made a snuff film, and that wasn't what he wanted to make.

In one of the reviews I read, they detailed the director describing the audio of their deaths, in the film. He felt it should be destroyed.

5. Treadwell and his girlfriend Amie Huguenard both killed.
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 04:08 PM by caty
"Treadwell inadvertently recorded his own death (the lens cap was on, so he didn't film it), and Herzog shoots himself listening on headphones to the six minutes of screaming and Lord knows what else. He doesn't share the tape with us and tells Treadwell's ex-girlfriend to destroy it. You can respect the way Herzog handles that material and still roll your eyes at his theatrics. That's very much true of the whole film—and its larger-than-life subject. Too bad he wasn't larger than bears."

6. I know--it's a very sad story, but you've got to wonder
what made this guy think he could 'commune' with the bears and be 'one' with them? What led him to believe he was 'protecting' them? Protecting them from what? Or whom?

7. Waiting for the animal people
to show up and argue the guy was perfectly sane, rational, and in fact highly more sensitive than most homo "plague species" sapiens, or alternately, that him and his girlfriend DESERVED to be eaten! "There are no bad bears, just bad bear owners/filmographers ..."
