1. Plenty of kids sure love it... like my generation loved Blade Runner.

8. we still watch Blade Runner
we drag it out every 6 months to a year or so when we are in the mood. It is a great film.

But if people want seminal serious old-style noir, try The Third Man. Or even all those great films of Dashiel Hammett or Chandler stories, like The Maltese Falcon. Have a noir fest!

I suppose I might have to see Sin City if it's the new generation's Blade Runner. ;)

11. We enjoyed it...
Judge for yourself. There are a ton of movie slobs on DU, and I don't mean that in a necessarily bad way.

4. A week later, I'm still lamenting over the (original 1961) version of...
...Town Without Pity.

Two hours of my life that are more than just gone, they're stained with mediocrity.

I loved it. Visually brilliant. Entertaining story. The noir style narrative was really cool. Might not be the deepest movie out there, but it was damn entertaining.

I guess it's just the type of movie you either love or hate.

6. I liked it...
I had trouble getting used to the stiled, noir style dialogue. But once I did I took it for what it was and found it very entertaining. Very violent, but I don't mind that in a movie. I can see where people would have found it to be less than an enjoyable movie though, so...

7. I heard that Jessica Alba, while hot to look at, has NO acting chops.
True?

9. I lost two hours watching Mr & Mrs. Smith; violence from
one end to the other with jokes thrown in between shootings. Haven't seen Sin City yet but heard it was the same thing; violence, violence, violence

10. OK for a rental
I was prepared not to like it. But comme si, comme ca. I won't watch it again.

However, I thought Layer Cake was a good British crime film. I double-featured with an Italian film called Remember Me (Ricaorddati di me). A dysfunctional family flick. Monica Bellucci was nearly unrecognizable. She smiled and was animated, rather than her usual Jeanne Moreau-looking-sad look.

16. "Layer Cake" - yes!
I saw it in the theater when it came out (seems like it was only a couple of months ago). I'm just glad my friends saw the commercial for it, otherwise I would've missed it. I don't think it was advertised on TV at all, at least not around here.

14. I thought the movie was visually impressive enough to waste hours on.
I guess I can see how some would disagree, but it is masterfully done from a visual standpoint. I like highly stylized, noirish films though.

As a whole, it can't compete with Chasing Amy.

18. I read the comics when they were first published--
I haven't seen the film cos' ultra-violent noir isn't my cup'o'coffee. Good if you like that genre though, I've been told.

22. I'm looking forward to seeing it soon
I loved Kill Bill so I think Sin City looks like it'll be for me

However, I'm reluctant to buy it on DVD, cuz I know if I like it I'll have to shell out 30 more bucks for a SE in about six months or so; I'll probably rent it.
