You must watch Kung Fu Hustle. |
|
What a great movie that was! I may even buy the DVD. And I don't buy many DVDs. http://www.sonyclassics.com/kungfuhustle/index_en.php

1. Love that movie, and I have the DVD. Love the childhood flashback scene |
|
of why the 'hero' decided to be a bad guy. And I like how that gets turned around at the end. Lots of fun.
Best scene in the movie though is the fight with the zither playing assassins. Very creative.

A couple of times I've put the D.V.D to watch that specific scene . . . at times with some movies I just get a craving to watch a particular part of the movie and I'll put the D.V.D in just for that. Lately it's been that scene.
All around fun film.

I haven't been so completely entertained by a flick in a very long time.
The effects were cool, the martial arts were amazing, and the moral of the story was pretty groovy too.

Bursting with creativity. A ton of fun. And Qui Yuen, a former Bond girl who played the Landlady, should get an Oscar nomination.

7. If I read the awards page on IMDB correctly |
|
She did get nominated at the hong Kong awards (or whatever their names are. . sorry I don't remember) but didn't win.)
The man (Whose name escapes me grr) who played the landlord won for best supporting actor. . .
But I wouldn't mind seeing her with a nomination for our Academy Awards.

10. Fun movie, though the English translations aren't always great |
|
I think the beginning, when the gang comes up, they call him "northerner" when it really should be translated as "bumpkin" or "peasant", which is a fairly serious insult in China (unlike a bumpkin in the US that implies a sort of naive innocence)
Also, they translate "landlady" is more accurately something like "Fat pig mother", but my wife wouldn't give me a fully accurate translation, as I guess it also contains an obscenity.
A few others, but i can't recall them since it's been a while since I saw the movie. I remember the first one, because I picked it out.
