What video games did you think were needlessly impossible?
For me, it was NES Rampage. The 5 or so hours I spent beating this game with my friend Ryan is time I'll never get back. When you get done with the 128 identical levels, it just says "Congratulations" and then it's over. That was a killer.

The other ridiculously hard game that I remember was "Fester's Quest". I'm not sure it's possible to beat it.

2. all of them...for me at least. i suck.
although the dh loves them, and he would probably say Ninja Gaiden (sp?) is the hardest. I think he got stuck at level 11 or 12 or something. Really beautiful game. I could barely make the dude walk though! I mean it, I suck, unless it's tetris, then I kick major ass.

That was a hard game! Most of those old Infocom text games were pretty hard, but loads of fun back in the day. :)

My friend and I spent quite a few weekends getting to the end of that one.,,

...of course, we only played at 3:00am after we'd been out all night...

...still, it was a lot of work.

For those who played it, "BOOGEY, BOOGEY, BOOGEY"

But only through sheer pigheadedness. It was a no-fun experience. The bloopy controls for the knight character sucked out loud.

47. I think the controls were fine
Though the knockback gave me memories of Castlevania, the little guy controlled okay. My main gripe was that one hit knocked off your armor and put you in boxers, and the next hit reduced you to a pile of bones. Whereas there were always tons of enemies and most took 2+ hits to take out. Plus the irritating invulnerability of some bosses to some weapons--AND that you had to beat it TWICE to get the actual (lame) ending.

10. 1949
It's like seriously the worst ending ever. Weeks were spent beating that game.

I finally did it, and what did I see?

"Congraturation"

I promptly broke the cartridge out of pure unbridled rage.

I could never beat festers quest either. I remember playing it when i was little then getting too scared to continue when it went into first person mode, I must've been no older than 6 or 7 at the time.

It's damn near impossible.

My obsessive/compulsive buddy did it in college. He then spent the next 2 days trying to beat the game without dying ONCE. He never did do it.

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:08 AM by LeftyMom
It's just endless, and the Helm's Deep sequence lasts forever with no opportunity to save (I HATE that) and when you finally get to the end and defeat the eye of Sauron, the ending is *so* weak and anti-climatic. There isn't even a good cinematic at the end.

Edit: Other than the Helms' Deep sequence it's not hard at all. My 4 year old can play it. But the ending suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

43. Really?
I didn't think it was hard. My issue with the game was the fact that it was a like a bad Mary Sue fanfic crammed into a bootleg Final Fantasy X. If you're gonna steal like that, have some shame and put a mask on.

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9553

I hadn't heard about the "Ron Howard! = Run, Coward!" confusion
before.

It also looks like a set of the long sought PROMs
with the difficulty settings were found in 1999.

Who knew?

32. Starcade!!
Heheh.. finally found it:

STARCADE is a game show where contestants compete by answering trivia questions about video games and by playing video games. The show aired on television stations across the US in the 1980's, generally in a Saturday morning or early afternoon time slot. It featured the hottest video games of that time. Today, the games of STARCADE are considered the classics of the video game industry.

33. Okay... Okay...
Set the total number of mines to the minimum... (10, I think)
Set the number of squares to the maximum... (100, I think)

Then click on the squares in each of the four corners of the
game board.

That should eliminate all of the non-mined squares. (You'll know
if this has happened because there will only be 10 squares left
in an uncollapsed state.) Click up a mine marker on each of the squares which are left.

From there on it's, sunglasses city, man.

B-)

Haha, I loved the NES version, but man, you're right. What a total let-down of an ending. Still, it does strike me as ironic that the giant ape's name was George, and the game's goal is to destroy America.
