2. Depends what you mean by "better"... |
|
I've been using it for years-- since around V.2.x and it beat everyone else to things like tabs, keyboard commands, file management, cookie and popup control, password and login... Usually first with the good stuff and everyone else plays catchup. And, it's still the fastest at loading pages.
Mozilla/Firefox has caught up pretty well, and may even have more features, but you need to deal with all those extensions to get them. Opera has it all there for you, including a decent email client, a newsreader, and RSS. I use Firefox as a backup browser, and have no real problems with it, but am so used to Opera that I really don't want to change, and haven't seen a reason to.
According to CNet and Woody's Windows Watch, Opera is a bit more secure than Firefox, but not by much. I can honestly say that after using it for years I've NEVER been hijacked or gotten a virus or trojan from a website. (That I know of, anyway-- scans always show up clean.)

Opera is MUCH more secure than Firefox. Firefox has had more patches In 2005 than any other browser. most of those Firefox patches were for some very low-threat sorts of things. Gotta say, though, that as much as I like the idea of open source software, hackers have the source code right in front of them to make their work easier. And, yes, low threat is not no threat.
Opera, btw, had a serious problem with v8.01 and released the fix- v8.02, within a day or two. Musta set some kind of record for security patching. I really, really hope the Firefox craze doesn't end up shutting them down.

5. Wonder if I can get a code for V 6.05? |
|
I tried V8.02, and frankly I was VERY disappointed. it was NOT "the world's fastest browser", and I went back to V6.
