How did you find DU?

I came from a link on Will's article at Democrats.com and NEVER looked back.

1. I honestly don't know.

I think it might have been the Top 10 Conservative Idiots link from Buzzflash.

But...I remember going to one of those Democrats.com "unPresidents Day" parties in 2001, and discussing Web sites with one of the attendees. I know Smirking Chimp was one of the sites, but I'm not sure if this one was or not.

I only started on the message boards around the start of the war, though.

But not exactly via Buzzflash. I was keeping a file for my own use (one I entitled “Republican Family Values”; 32+ pages, and growing, bless their hearts!), and did a web search on one of those virtuous, all-American, stand-up type repub truth-tellers and found the Top-10 Conservative Idiots. Couldn’t believe what I was reading. Funny, accurate, and all of it referenced! Been hooked ever since.

I don’t know who writes the Top-10, but I want to thank him. I go to bed Sunday night thinking how great Monday morning is going to be because, first thing come morning, I’m going to sign on and read the next installment!!!

It's great commentary with comedy. Maybe the sarcasm is what makes it so good. It’s “right-back-at-you” to the Freepers. They may come back with an, “Oh, yeah?”, but they can’t argue the event. And they have nothing like it.

Over some apalling pronouncement or other from the misAdministration, I thought there surely must be people on the Net who hate these assholes as much as I do. I googled up Hated.com, and followed links from there. Never imagined I would find something as great as DU.

My post count doesn't show it but I've been here a very long time. :P I think I started lurking around Feb/March of 2001. I just remember it wasn't very long after the "inauguration". Cause I was REALLY pissed off.

14. I didn't like DU when I first found it

I followed a link from Buzzflash or Salon. I read a lot of it, and from what I recall there were lots of articles on the horrid origins of the BFEE. I did not want to read about Prescott Bush, I wanted to dis' the dork in the Oval Office!

Well, I came back months later and started digging the Top Ten Conservative idiots list, then I started reading the message board, then I took the chance of getting a screen name, and 3000 posts later I am still neurotic and terrified of the future, but at least I have friends! :bounce:

I used to read the comments in fark.com all the time and somebody mentioned Bartcop. Bart had a link here and now I read 'em both all the time. Sadly, Fark has not improved

One of the regulars kept posting "the top ten conservative idiots" from DU. Eventually, I left for a couple of reasons. First, because I got bored fighting the Libertarians and Republicans. Their arguments became circular. And secondly, because the newspaper stopped advertising a direct link to the bulletin on the front web page. This occurred after several "Republican" posters began to apologize for voting for Bush.

I made a comparison to the lame reasons Clinton was impeached and ... bam ... I am off the board.

The idiot board moderator let one of his friends/freep trolls go in and modify my "user profile". I complained to the newspaper and got a decent response when I complained.

There I found a link to the infamous O'Reilly-Franken-Ivins book expo, and Franken got me even more fired up. I Googled some more, and found DU.

after the selection I fired off an angry letter to the SCOTUS telling them I thought their actions were DISGRACEFUL. Then I realized it seemed like I was really the only angry person; living in Texas I knew NO ONE who felt the way I did. I WAS VERY ANGRY. I KNEW there had to be others like me so I started searching on the internet. Found William, then found the DU. Lurked for a long time before joining (my boyfriend said I'd be banned in no time because I am so combative). Surprise surprise, it's been over two years now!!!!! :D
