Am I the only one who feels helpless?

I want to find some way to DO SOMETHING to help the rescue and clean-up. I know I can send money, and probably will.

I just have this urgent need to help in some way.

1. The Red Cross is going to need....

people to volunteer very soon.

They cannot distribute all the help needed without masses of people.
We were extremely grateful to those who came to FL to help last year, and this year.

Call them, they will know when they'll need people to go.

I've been an absolute wreck all day. My heart is breaking for the people down there. But I'm broke and in NYC with no way to get down there...all I have is free time to give, and I just want to *do* something, ya know?

5. I've heard the Red Cross needs

money more than anything. A rep on the news said at times like this they're actually overwhelmed by material donations (clothes, etc.) without means of distributing much of it.

9. No, you're not the only one who feels helpless.

My mother lives about 45 miles outside of New Orleans and I haven't heard from her in a week. I presume she evacuated since her phone is disconnected, but I have no clue where she is or how she is. I tried calling a friend of hers in Baton Rouge to see if maybe she knew where my mother went, but the phone lines are down there, too. I'm worried sick.

Her phone's been disconnected since Saturday at least, so I think she must have left. She's probably in Houston or somewhere else in Texas, but I just wish I knew for sure.

I would like to go down to NO. I have a canoe and vacation days left. I am waiting for the call for volunteers to go down and I am there.
