I lost a loved one yesterday to pancreatic cancer
My sister in law passed away yesterday after a really brave battle with pancreatic cancer. We were all there with her just like she wanted. She was awesome. Just fucking awesome. A real rock star of a woman and the best OB doctor in the world. She was 43 years old. I loved her so much.

Besides crushing the BFEE, can we make it our mission here at DU to crush pancreatic cancer too? We lost Andy (she was diagnosed just after Andy as I remember) Just so you know, she wanted to start a support/information webgroup/website for those with pc and their loved ones. Keep a head's up for www.ellieswish.org
It's still under construction now, but should be up and running soon.

I just needed to get the word out. Thanks you guys.

6. I remember your original post about it.
I was so hoping she would survive.

I'm so sad right now.

I'd be proud to donate to the effort.

We needed her to be around to doctor her patients.

Sending healing energy to you, Libnnc.

Thanks Maat
The most evil thing about pc is that once its been diagnosed, it is usually too late. Fucking evil is what it is. :nuke:

FUCK CANCER!!! :nuke:

8. I am so sorry. I saw Matthew Modine on tv raising money
for research for pancreatic cancer.

That is so young to leave this world, especially for someone who has so much to give others. What a terrible loss.

10. I am sorry.
That is a hard cancer to have. My father died 10 days after diagnosis when I was 19.

The website is a great idea, especially to offer comfort to families who are facing what is always a bad time with this kind of cancer.

I am so sorry, I am glad you were all with her. I am certain that helped her to pass peacefully.

I hope her suffering was minimal. That's one of the worst kinds of cancer (as if any of them is GOOD). My condolences to you and your family.

14. I'm so sorry lib. That really hurts.
She sounds like she was a really strong woman.
I've saved the link to put it on my website.
I hope you and your family can get through this and hope she has some peace now. Many hugs to you all. Wish I could do more. :(

15. Sorry for your loss
43 is way way way too young.

Pancreatic cancer still has a low surival rate, although it has improved
some over the last 30 years.

18. Thanks to all of you
I've been compulsivly cleaning house all evening trying not to think about all the stuff I'll never do again. I'll never be able to get stinking drunk with her again. Never watch ER, Survivor, Queer As Folk or Queer Eye with her again. Every Thanksgiving she wanted my green beans and mashed potatoes. She showed me South Beach Miami, we laid drinking Natural Light under umbrellas in North Myrtle...I'm going to miss her so much.

Maybe this weekend you could play something joyful and freeing and dedicate it to Ellie? Something that will help her as she takes this new journey to her new existence. I would really appreciate it. :hugs:

I lost my mother to that horrible disease.

I think it's one that often flies under the radar unless one personally knows someone who has had it. Thanks for helping to raise awareness of it.
