PLEASE - has anyone heard from Maddy McCall yet?

If there is no word by tomorrow, I'm getting in my rickety little work truck and driving over the Mississippi to find her. I'm not kidding. And if the road is washed out before I reach the last place she told me she be, I'll get out and walk.

I am so worried about her.

I don't know if she has posted her hometown here in the past. But she was not on the coast, so I'll leave it at that. But all of central and southern Mississippi got it bad, and she is somewhere on that part of the map.

12. I'm sorry, I don't know where Maddy is

but I have friends in Oxford (north-central) and Starkville (centralish)...and they say there's damage, but nobody's hurt that they know of. They have also heard from people in Hattiesburg (south-central) and they have some pretty heavy damage, but no deaths that they know of.

she's in south central Mississippi. I used to live there, and am overwhelmed with concern for her any so many others.

16. My definitions are probably way messed up

I've kind of had a crash course in MS geography today and probably got the locations of the towns somewhat wrong.

I posted the names of the towns so that people who know where she is can get an idea of the situation in towns that may be near her. I certainly understand the need for privacy.

But Maddy posted that they were going north to her parent's place. They probably don't have power and won't for a while.

I'm also at peace with the idea of driving over to check on her - I live less than three hours from her.

She may not have computer access for quite a while. And she has become a friend that transcends this message board for me.

You are right, of course - the last thing I'd want would be to contribute to existing logistical problems. The route between our locations is not shut down, we are not on the coast. Still, good advice from a good friend.

I'm not promising I won't. But I'll think hard about it. I just really want her to know how loved she is here. And would really like to know she and her family are ok.

She thought the place where she had been staying might be subject to flooding and, now from the news, it appears that it probably has. :(
