The pictures out of New Orleans make me so sad. |
|
It's largely because I know exactly how they're feeling right now. I lost my house during last year's hurricanes and it was the most frightening experience of my life, moreso afterwards than during. The whole thing came down around us, and we had to run to a neighbor's home with what little we could carry while the eye was overhead. Their experience was probably much worse. I feel so badly for them.
We're still living in a rental home, and we're on the verge of sealing our plans to move to upstate New York, where these things will hopefully be a non-issue. I'm now scared that we won't get out in time now, though.
I needed to vent. Sorry. :)

That's what we're here for. I'm sure this must be bringing it all back for you. What an awful thing to go through.

3. It was bad. The aftermath was the worst. |

When you take a direct hit from one of these storms, it's like the area you live in becomes sectioned off from the world. Telephones don't work. Cellphones are down. Cable is gone. The internet is gone. Hell, you probably don't even have power. Nobody on the outside knows if you're alive, and you're similarly ignorant of what's going on.
When the hurricanes first passed, people could not legally leave their homes unless they were having a serious emergency or the police would lock 'em up. That made it even harder. When you could go out, trucks and so on still didn't arrive for a few days, which meant more grocery stores and other necessity-providers had nothing to give. It was very scary.

4. I'm so sorry that happened to you. |

I feel terrible for you and all the victims today. It's so depressing.
On a good note, though, upstate NY is pretty cool! I live here in central NY.
