1. I would feel sorry for Nomar
Even though I'm a Yankees fan, I really really like Nomar. If Nomar was traded in this manner, I would feel terrible for him because he really is teh heart of the Red Sox. All the Sox fans here would have no reason to live if he was traded away...

5. Why?
Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 04:33 PM by WindRavenX
Someone mentioned he wants to be closer to Mia, but I don't believe it...
Nomar mentioned a few years ago that the Red Sox were a zoo and said something along the lines of "no wonder we can't f--king win". This was when Carl Everett was still on the team, I think.
The though of Arod on the Sox..:scared: :scared:

6. the no wonder comment
was directed at the Red Sox media and their consistent hounding of the players over every single aspect of their lives. The team was a mess when Carl was here.

Nomar has mentioned going where the market takes him. I love Nomar the player but I have never heard him say " I want to finish my career in Boston" never even anything close to that. I think he would love to play in southern california. That said I wouldn't mind seeing A-Rod in a Sox Uniform. I would prefer Nomar even though A-rod is the greatest, I want nomar to win it all here.

I can't see A-Rod here unless Ramirez is dealt. No way can the Sox afford $45mm per year for two players.

7. Maybe that's why they tied to dump Manny..
Edited on Tue Nov-11-03 04:45 PM by WindRavenX
And I've heard they're still shopping him (unless he has a no-trade clause?).
Your point about the payroll is correct though. ARod has said he would be willing to re-negotiate his contract in order to be moved to a better team. He's not going to come cheap in any case though. In either case, Manny won't stay. He's become a problem in the clubhouse from what I've heard.
on edit:
Am I the only one who thinks ARod should deserve to rot in Texas for accepting that insane 255 million contract? What did he think he was getting into? Texas has no pitching and has not made any signs to show that they are interested in making a better team.

8. the word here is that Manny wanted
the Yankees to pick him up and Jeff Moorad asked the sox to waive him. The Yankees declined on Manny for good reason. It would have freed up $20mm per year for the Red Sox to go after Pettite.

I don't think Manny is a huge problem as of yet, but he is not giving the hard nosed performance you would expect from a guy making that much money. And it is wearing on teammates. Kevin Millar for one spoke about his (mannys) desire to play for the Yankees and said basically go for it, hit the road. I would agree, imagine if Bernie Williams were pining away for the Red Sox.

As for A-Rod, I place the blame squarely on the head of Tom Hicks. Hicks over-paid for A-Rod in the worst imaginable way. the Mets weren't close to $25million per. And ten years? What moron signs a player to a guaranteed contract for ten years? I think A-Rod shouldn't be surprised if there is backlash but I don't blame him for signing that deal as quickly as it took to get his pen out of his pocket.

11. Well, Bernie almost went to the Sox
Sox offered him more money than the Yankees, and I think at the last minute Bernie decided he wanted to stay with the Yankees.
That would've sucked for Yankee fans for years and years and years to come...

10. Hells no
Pettitte is going to pitch either in pinstripes or go to Texas to be with family.
He ain't going to Boston.
If he does, I'm gonna be pissed; Pettitte is one of my favorites!
