It's weird how your opinion about someone one can change
in just on sentence.
I was chatting with this man who works in another office in my building. I don't know him well, but we say hi & he seemed nice enough. Today we started talking about concerts we had been to & found that we had similar taste in music. Then he stated that he had seen Elton John in concert twice & while he put on a great concert he would never buy another ticket to one of his concerts because Elton John is gay & he does not like people who flaunt their sexuality.
I stared at him, I could not even think of what to say, I just turned and walked away.
Of course we all know that only gay performers "flaunt their sexuality"! What an ass!

2. The three "G"s is all they care about...
"Guns, God, and Gays"...

Although, I'm currently thinking there's another silent "G"...

*GREED*

But, we'll learn more about that "G" over the weeks to come.

4. Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner!
If I had already had my morning caffeine, I might have made a snappy come back.

5. Yep, that happened to me in June.
My absolute favorite aunt died. She was the one person in the world I was closest to. We agreed on hating Bush (even though she'd always voted Republican), and I got her on the Dean bandwagon. She lived long enough to cast her vote in November, and died December 2.

One of my dad's other sisters drove me around Chicago in June showing me their old neighborhood and telling me stories so I can include them in my family history that I'm writing.

We ended up discussing politics (big mistake). She's not crazy about Bush, but has always and WILL always vote Republican.

I missed aunt #1 even more when aunt #2 said, "I don't think ANYONE should get anything they didn't work for!!"

This coming from a woman who's been a housewife her whole life. She means, "I don't think anyone should get anything my HUSBAND didn't work for." :eyes:

But she's family, and I need her to finish the book.

6. And therein lies the dark secret of greedy conservatives.
They'll say they're all for helping the needy but just don't want the government mandating it and yadda yadda yadda.

Bullshit. They don't want private charity either. They want the poor to starve or freeze to death. Preferrably both.

That statement from your aunt was hardly surprising to me. I've read similar attitudes elsewhere.

8. Until they need help themselves
Had a deeply conservative boss who worshipped John Wayne.

But then, his son was born deaf.

All of a sudden, the ADA was a great idea, public schools rocked (his kid got a sign language aide to accompany him to all his classes), and government was no longer the enemy.

I've always said "a conservative is just a liberal who life hasn't mugged yet".

Boy that caught me by surprise!

Just kidding, but this man went back to see Elton a second time!
