Seriously, they took down the $2.79 and put up $3.27 a few minutes ago.

WHAT IN THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!

(this is the gas station across the street from my office, Lincoln, Nebraska.)

1. No refineries to produce the gas
The coastal refineries down there produced about 1/4 of the country's gas, from what I've read, and are 85%+ shut down...

3. Well sure,
but didn't * just release some of the emergency oil reserves? Plus, that's only 25% of our gas that's affected, right?

8. Yeah, but....
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not?

Without anywhere to refine that oil, it doesn't help. And 1/4 less supply means that prices will go up to meet a steady demand...

As the supply shifts down (left), the equilibrium price goes up (Y axis)...

2. why not? They'll get away with it with W in office
they know it.

This country is headed for a major economic disaster thanks to greed and incompetence of the oil industry.

7. Here's a curve in west Texas of prices this week
Today is Wednesday and gas on the way into work was 3.01
yesterday morning it was 2.85
monday when they were starting to talk about raising it: 2.54

best of all? I remembered filling up on Friday and found the receipt, I was right, it did jump over the weekend: on Friday I paid 2.33

So, as the hurrican approached and landed out here in OIL country---I'm in a major producing county...gas has been rising steadily. We also might be the USA capitol of big honking SUVs and Hummers. Yes, the *screaming* about prices is starting to get loud. But, you will be surprised to know who is at fault in what is emerging as local opinion: enviromentalists who caused the hurricane damage through "PC rules on refineries"

that's a new one, even for out here. BTW, while typing this, my co worker just returned to the office and said that he saw 3.15 gas over by the mall.

9. This is going to make leaving my Da Vinci's delivery job even more urgent.
I filled my tank at $2.55 per gallon the day of the storm.

I saw it going for $2.75 yesterday.

The dollar we get per delivery to offset our expenses hasn't gone up, though their delivery charge went up by 50 cents to help pay for their gas.

Time to find a different job.

I can't make money delivery driving with gas prices this high.

11. Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that
I just found gas in Lincoln for 3.18, but that's the cheapest I've found. Over $30 to put 3/4 of a tank in a tiny Nissan. Complete shit.
