Submitting a resume to a giant impersonal company website

There are boxes in which one is supposed to cut and paste the résumé and cover letter. To whom would you address the cover letter? Even if you successfully do detective work and find the name of the HR director at the company, it's not necessarily the case that she'll be the one who initally reads it, yeah?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I'm stumped. Any authority on cover letters will tell you that it's imperative the thing be addressed to a specific individual.
