Why must I go out of my way to say that I care? Or need to at all?!

I was talking to a coworker today. About Katrina and its aftermath.

None of us can change what has happened.

And I've donated, as much as many of us already have.

But I was talking about oil, the current crisis, and then trying to say how many more lives are going to be hurting or worse because of government ineptitude and greed. But I instead get cut off and treated like I'm insensitive to those who have died in the storm or have lost everything, which is not the case. I just also happen to worry about everybody else living right now, in a situation that never needed to happen if our government and corporate elite bothered to pwork on alternate fuel means. With the bankruptcy laws about to change, knowing prices will skyrocket further, I'll tell you right now people WILL rob and kill for gas. It is going to get much worse. But instead people still want to piss and moan about what has happened.

Maybe talking about what MIGHT happen will get people to wake up and at least TRY to divert our country's course from becoming far, far worse.

1. Well, I think it's a matter of balance
Yes, there are a lot of serious issues that this disaster brings to glaring light. However, right now there are people suffering hugely and regardless of anything else, that's what's on most people's minds. They're putting themselves in that situation and seeing the horror of it which is human nature. And by diverting the subject to the technicalities of the government situation - all true and valid - it can appear insensitive.

I've been ranting myself about the damned administration but always by focusing on what's going on in NO right now because that's where people's minds are.
