Maybe people in internet communities like ours care more...
...because we're used to caring about people that we can't see. And also, we know and love people who live all over the place and have all kinds of jobs, lifestyles, etc. So people who are suffering far away don't seem so removed to us.

Just responding to a couple folks who have mentioned trying to talk to other who just don't want to hear it. And thinking about why we all flock together.

But I'm probably not being too clear 'cause it's late and I'm a little drunk.

Can anyone help me out with this thesis?

1. I was talking to my mother-in-law about this today.
You're being perfectly clear (or maybe my third glass of wine is catching up to me and BOTH of us are making no sense!)

I think you're right; as a group, we are more accustomed to feeling part of a larger and different kind of community. At the same time, we are very used to sifting, parsing, and understanding large quantities of news and information. We know what this kind of story is about because we are suffused with news. For many, this story has had the same impact as the "runaway bride" story--a barrage of information that means little in any kind of larger context. As sad as that is, I think it's true.

I surely do appreciate the opportunities that this community affords me.

2. Clear as a fucking bell.....
I have never ever had a problem with sharing my thoughts with anyone who would stay and listen...

Opinions, shared or opposed....

Perhaps that is why I ran for office...

But here. I see that this could be a great vehicle to let it all out...

Especially for those surrounded by people who don't always agree with what you feel....

This is a great place to find compassion....
