19. Unfortunately, I've seen it coming for a while.
Hi, prag,

Here's a painting from a series I made shortly after the 2000 election, titled "Banana Republic." It's sad for me to think that my country has become this.

I'm doing much better than I was.

But this whole NOLA thing is rousing a righteous anger... I'm no longer sad about it, I'm fucking furious.

13. I've moved on to anger myself.
I'm hoping this will be the thing that brings Americans together and opens our collective eyes (or third-eye) about how our nation is falling to ruin. NOLA is horrible enough, but the underlying issues have been unfolding for a long time.

10. Amazingly, a bunch of people from CNN
The woman with the interesting name I can't keep in my head, who rocked the morning show all yesterday with flint in her eyes.

That crotchety old Cafferty dude, who said in plain English that they gamed the relief to show up with Bush and said several times, "This is embarrassing."

I was like to faint.

14. NOLA homeland security adviser: "This is a national disgrace."
From The Globe and Mail:

Officials in New Orleans said people there were becoming increasingly desperate and violent as they waited in vain for assistance.

The city's homeland security adviser, Terry Ebbert, slammed the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is overseeing the massive rescue effort, saying its slow pace of relief and evacuation had created an explosive situation.

"This is a national emergency. This is a national disgrace," Mr. Ebbert said.

16. I think this might do it
I hate to even think of such horror in political terms, but I don't see how not to.

Over twenty countries and the UN have offered aid. And been refused. Hugo (Let's take him out) Chavez has offered to cut prices on oil to help. The mayor of Chicago is dumbfounded that the help his city offered has been refused.

There is no leadership. There is only incompetence and indifference. People are starting to see it. Shep on Hannity getting pissed and saying when Hannity said we should look at another perspective "This is the perspective! This is the only perspective you need!"

A few other quotes:

"This is a disgrace."
"This is an embarassment"

They said before Katrina hit that it would be a catastrophe... and we are seeing what that word actually means.

As Jerry Springer said bitterly "Is this our finest moment?"

Never mind everything else... BushCo should be put up against a wall and shot for this one. What price Homeland Security?

Khash.

17. I don't want to see them put up against a wall and shot, because
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 09:42 AM by Heidi
I'd rather see justice played out according to the rules, with the perpetrators of such cruelty having to face their victims, one by one, in a court of law, domestic or international. What we see happening is an absolute outrage.

Further, the whole thing shows what a joke "Homeland Security" is. What's "secure" for the people of New Orleans, whose emergency management allocations were cut in order to fund Bush's war?

:loveya: Khash. Thanks for being a light in the Lounge, my friend.

22. Times-Picayune blasts federal response
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- The Times-Picayune of New Orleans printed this editorial in its Sunday edition, criticizing the federal government's response to Hurricane Katrina and calling on every FEMA official to be fired:

23. Aaron Broussard, Jeff. Parish president
has really been coming on strong this weekend. He's basically the Cajun version of Mayor Nagin. There's been talk for years about Aaron going for Governor. I think he should.

When in lived in N.O. years ago, Aaron was mayor of Kenner, the city west of N.O. where the airport is. He was the sole suburban official to actually -- get this! -- cooperate with New Orleans, at a time when the Jeff. Parish sheriff actually tried to block off a road that led into Metairie from the poor, black Hollygrove neighborhood in N.O. (then-N.O. mayor Sidney Barthelemy took a sledgehammer to the barrier from the N.O. side!)
