I live, no thanks to Katrina....
Lost my house and basicly everything I own but I sent my family to another state so they are safe and thats all that matters.

For those that do not know I am a Police Officer for Biloxi, MS. When I got off shift this morning I ran to where my family is and I am trying to file claims with FEMA and my insurance company. Lol, they say we may get a day off in 3 months.

When I get a day off I will post my hurricane experience. It would make a good TV movie. :)

For those of you interested in helping please donate to the Red Cross. DO NOT COME HERE! Traffic and people hinder emergency crews. Alot of people died. Alot of my neighbors died. The Police are on edge. If you come here and violate our curfew you will go to jail. No ifs ands or buts.

Peace

1. So glad you are OK, SD
and also your family. So many are not. It looks like the 30s migration all over again.

 Wow! Looking forward to your story when you get the chance to write it.

In the meantime, here's another  for all your public safety work. It's so important right now.

6. Good to hear from you. Two things might cheer you up...
1. moveon.org has already signed up people willing to take in 87,000 refugees in their homes.

2. Even Faux News is complaining about the slow pace of FEMA's action, and CNN reporters (except Blitzer) are going ballistic on all republicans, and even democrats who praise the response.

Help has been shamed on the way.

10. Glad to hear you are alright, and your family is safe
I drove through Biloxi many years ago, before the casinos, and thought it was a pretty area. I remember all the older houses along the beach. I'm sorry to see all that destroyed, and am wondering about all the lives lost.

Wow, Biloxi. That must be an incredibly difficult place to police right now.

So sorry that you've lost so much, but I'm glad your family is out of harm's way.

Be safe.

26. I'm so glad that you're okay.
But if people violate the curfew and go to jail, do they get a safe place to stay?

Of course, it's stupid for outsiders to get in the way, but I wonder whether it wouldn't be worth it for a desperate person to commit a crime just to survive.

And good advice to stay away for now. Unless they have experience some people will make the situation even worse.

Not much I can do from here but if you know anyone who is interested in relocating I know of a foundry that is advertising for 100 employees. They've been in business for over 60 years, have good benefits and pay a decent wage for this area. It might be a new start for anyone that you meet w/ that is looking for one.

35. My admiration knows no bounds
I'm so sorry for your losses (but thankful you and your family are OK), and admire your dedication and sense of duty. I'm sure it's difficult...

I was gonna totally rip this thread off and be silly ( I can't do anymore doom and gloom) but I can't do it. It would be dishonorable.

We hear about people looting and raping and stealing and everything horrible. We so rarely hear about people doing their job and doing their best for other people in the midst of their own tragedy.

Respect where respect is due!
Khash.
