Why do I get ignored in GD? |
|
Whenever I offer something that actually might contribute w/o snark why does it get ignored in GD? Just wondering.

Vaguely insulting? Suspiciously flattering to Simian Presidents?
I think there's a snark requirement. :)

I offered a small solution to the housing situation. Of course, it did bring up small towns and churches-two things that GD does not like. No insults, no comments either way about the Chimp. Just a small solution for families that I have heard of a few churches mention recently.

:)
It's really hard sometimes to post and not get a response. But just because no one posted, doesn't mean that people weren't reading and appreciating what you might have had to say.
I mostly don't read GD, so I'm not sure what the comment was. However, people are especially angry right now. Snark and criticism are part of venting those feelings of helplessness and anger that naturally result from the utter failures in the South right now.

But it is something that drives me crazy over there. I've gone in, posted snark and had a ton of replies. I've gone in and replied w/ an actual thought(since you know how much they love the Lounge) and it gets ignored. Oh well. Instead of snarking around, I'm writing letters to some small towns around my area and the local churches w/ my idea. We'll see how it goes.

And my posts offer a bit more detail and links than the one-line throwaway shit that seems to attract everybody under the sun.
So, either live with DU as an enjoyable waste of time or leave.

and everybody is being ignored to some greater or lesser extent. (I avoid GD, who needs the fucking hassle?)
Also if you say something truthful or insightful, there's not much to say in response. I find, if I'm thoughtful, it fades in silence. When I am vicious, cruel, angry, nasty, bitchy - I get a response.
Sometimes no response is the best response... it doesn't mean people are ignoring you, it means they are thinking about what you said.
But if you really want a response - do what I do: be a bitch. Always gets a response and it is oh so satisfying!
Khash, obviously a bad man.

Have you read Bucky Fuller's "Critical Path"? There's a lot of weird stuff... but he talks about housing, food, energy and how easy it would be to provide that almost free of charge. The only thing that gets in the way is politics.
It's why I'm an anarchist. Mostly liberal , but politics seem to get in the way of solving anything.
As for the rest of your response... your name... I'm an inveterate mangler of names. I like your name. And the diminutive of it... it just suits you. It's just right :)

Housing-wise: I can think of a small town that I used to live in about an hour from me. The residents are mostly seniors. As some have died their relatives have inherited. The relatives lived sometimes a few states away. They'd put the house up on the market. It didn't sell since it was a small town w/o many services there. Eventually, the city would claim the house b/c of years of back taxes. I think of this town because they owned almost one hundred houses for that reason. Some only one bedroom, some five bedrooms. And they sit vacant. The city has offered, in the past, a rent-to-own program for anyone interested in any of these homes. Sale price is very reasonable, no down payment, just basic maintenance(which we have programs in the area that will assist w/ maintenance for low-income homeowners). If they thought about it, they could do a similar offer for the evacuees as a one-year lease w/ an option to buy at a later date. Some would choose to leave at a later date, others would decide to stay behind knowing that they could actually own their own home(which they might not be able to do in a large city). Churches would gather together(since they do that in small towns-ministerial alliance), get supplies that were needed, and send down buses to bring the families to their towns. Small solution, but better for many families than living in a "refugee camp".

'cause I always wonder why I get ignored in the Lounge.
I thought you had a good response. I didn't read the rest of the thread. Sometimes when a thread gets contentious and convoluted, new replies get ignored. The original posters are caught up in their little flame fests and no one else has the patience to read through all the responses, so no replies get posted.

Thank you for saying I had a good response. I like to be silly most of the time (and I've participated in a kitten thread before). It's hard for me to explain but a topic that I am passionate about is what seems to be the imminent death of small towns and how to remedy their demise. To me, the solution might be small but seems to be a perfect fit for all sides. It gives people a real home and a sense of community. It gives the small towns an opportunity to attract new people (and maybe even retain them since it could be years before they could return), earn more tax money, keep their schools and land in better repair. It takes away the indecision from the Fed govt(since they've been rather lax lately-to put it mildly) and gives some of it to people who want to do something RIGHT NOW-not later. I've been to churches where the older women talk about not hearing any babies cry during services. They realize their lives are ending and there is no one there to pick up what is left behind(not in a negative way, either). They'd gladly welcome someone of any color from the Gulf. They would take care of them, since the govt isn't.

I tend to be too nice. I like to come up w/ solutions instead of just gripe. I figure that I already know who to blame. Why do that right now? Instead, it's time to put our heads together to find small solutions that can be easily implemented w/o fed govt assistance. Later, once everyone is safe, we will have time to blame.

I just like to find solutions. That's why I joined DU in the first place. It wasn't to bitch-it was to unite and find solutions to problems. I thought it was a workable solution. I know that many on DU do not like churches but I've found that most(read Mainline) do offer some of the best services and will do so w/o expecting you to join. They do it out of the kindness of their hearts and for no other reason. Small town churches are especially good at that. They band together to help out fellow community members. I've been to a few hog roasts at a Baptist church for someone who attends the Lutheran or a Methodist quilt sale for someone who attends mass at the local Catholic church. It's just how small town people are. They band together to help, whether you are one of them or not. And many want to help right now.
