1. It's too damn cold there for me
I would prefer to live in Austin, TX or some place with a similar climate if it weren't for family and friends living in Ohio. I hate winter in the northern states.

2. Yea,
My wife won't move because of family and I understand that, yea the cold in Alaska would take some getting used to, I live in humid and hot SC now, so it would be like moving to the North Pole in comparison.

3. why do you want to move to alaska?
are you a fisherman? a hunter? the great outdoorsman? it's actually pretty pretty much like anywhere else if you live in anchorage...but once you get out in the bush it's pretty wild and wooly...

6. I am a social worker by trade......
I talk all day, provide therapy services and all. I come home and of course am sick of talking, my wife nicknamed me the "antisocial social worker." So, I may not be so bad in your state.

and if you live out in the bush where there is less people...you probobly won't be able to find a job...

it is vaguely insulting to hear someone wants to move to your state becouse they don't like people....:P

8. Well, I don't mean to be insulting....
Alaska is The most beautiful state that I have seen (on TV that is) I truly appreciate the "wildness" of Alaska. There is not a state that has that quality, truly, the final frontier.

9. Not "antisocial"
Antisocial is a personality disorder with distinctsymptoms, none of which include "not liking people/not wanting to be around people". The appropriate term is "nonsocial" or "asocial". (People always get that mixed up)

I work with several antisocial clients, (guess I should not have used that word to describe myself). These people would kill you, have dinner, and sleep peacefully.

12. Yeah , move to Texas
If you are young and full of change or defined confrontation ,
move for texas,

texas gives you the most, in the
dichotomy of existence, in the good and bad.
I spent many years there,
where my son was born
where I made
and created a house

MAKE IT A NATION,

Texas, California and Alaska
these should be independent nations and can. (no sarcasm)

check out the energy grid
it is not tie to any state as
is tied to the national grid,
in the west, east, midwest.

but as loose as Alaska is
and the freedoms
that Texas
California give you ( irony )

See how the wilderness is treated
?(nature and human beings)
or how nature is respected
(nature and human beings)
before you put a decision
on your life or
economic
situation

The state of mind of the national entity
must be more important to and
whatever
to the state of mind
you are moving to.
:sarcasm:

North
and
south

of this

Planet
. It is all good

Citizen of the world

Citizen, of this nation

even though
I still have to have a US pasport
to prove
I am a citizen of this world

LIKE all HUMAN BEINGS are

they had no choice

Do you have a passport?

For one planet?

19. I am not sure it is true
1988 county and city data book shows 109.6 males for every 100 females which is highest in the nation, but hardly 10 to 1. Hawaii shows as 104 to 100 as does Nevada and Wyoming is 107.4. Alaska also shows as only having 2.3% of the population 65 to 74 years old, and only .9 over 75 whereas the national averages were 7.0 and 4.7 respectively. Either people do not live very long there, or they move south when they get older.

26. I have a cousin in Seward
He moved from Vermont to Alaska in the 70's and has been there ever since - loves it. I've never visited - it's definitely on my "want to do" list.

I agree with you about the "don't like people" thing. Oddly, I've always felt you're better off in an urban area if you don't like people - in rural areas, you find yourself depending quite heavily on your neighbors in a pinch and if you're not sociable at all, you can be in a world of hurt. It pays to be on friendly terms with the few people around you.

I'm going to look over your links - both hubby and I have discussed Alaska. How's the work situation for carpenters there?
