namely, hotels, are full. One is my cousin, so I offered them the place. Actually,, housing the relief/disaster management people is an issue, since we're packed with evacuees here in Baton Rouge

this is a special team that does high-tech mapping. they've set up an office in an former department store in baton rouge. they just got here last night from places all over the US (Oregon, Alaska, WASH, NJ, TExas, etc). They gather data/info from all kinds and sources and put it together, then provide it to whatever agency might need it. They will be working 20 hour days.

i just thought i'd start this thread to share a little of my glimpse into one small facet of FEMA. This particular crew is not hands-on rescue people. They're scientists who are pooling together their knowledge to help. They worked on the space shuttle disaster a few years ago, and on 9/11. They have some unbelievable maping technologies (LADAR, a laser kind of radar).

they can only do work to their best abilities when well rested. That is scientific fact. I think it's strange some posters begrudge cogs in the machine who are trying to help and are front line personnel a bit of shut-eye. It's not good at all for the people they want to help if they don't get SOME shut-eye.

So if they want to begrudge people sleep because there are people suffering, begrudge Chimpy "I cut 2 days off my 5 week vacation 3 days into the crisis' McFucknuts his comfy bed in the WH and the numerous naps he's taking, since overseeing a disaster of this magnitude between fundraisers, golf games, watching baseball and pre-season football games and chowing down on staff-prepared meals is such 'hard work.'
