5. I am a biker as well, but of the unmotorized variety

Although I am attracted to motorcycles, two of my friends have had horrible accidents which keep me away from motorcycles. Normally, I cruise the suburban streets when in town and the long, lonely stretches of country road when I'm at my family's beach retreat. The only "close encounter" I've had this year was the alligator I encountered on my route out in the country. This section of the road is a causeway through a swamp (really beautiful scenery) and I was lucky enough to see the gator in time. I did about 20 mph (35kph) u-turn.

I'm leaving for a ride in about three hours. So far this year I've peddled just over 1000 kilometers (my speedometer/odometer, which is metric, is a souvenir from the time when I lived in Germany).
