Samantha went to rainbow bridge this morning,
I've posted a couple times over the last few months about her having emergency vet visits, hip displasia diagnosis and eventually surgery. She got an infection after the surgery even while being on antibiotics, lost the skin around the incision and was restitched over a week ago. I called it her butt tuck. She seemed to improve, was up walking around and even walking down the stairs. She was even back to asking for her catnip fix.

Three days ago, she began getting sick again and was unable to walk.
Things steadily grew worse and we had to have her put down this morning.

I know with all the death from the hurricane and the delayed response, animals sometime seem not as important..but taking Sammy on her last journey this morning really hit me hard. I thought of all of those people down there, all of the animals too, so much death, fear, pain and separation and I sobbed all the way home.

Rest in peace dear Sammy, now you are pain free.

2. So sorry for your loss...
I had to put my Border Collie, Cody, to sleep a couple of months ago. I knew it was the right thing to do, but that certainly doesn't make it any easier...

Sending good thoughts and a big hug your way.

13. I agree! Animals are very important...
the kind of comfort and love they offer is profound. I am so sorry for your loss, but your baby is pain-free now. Hopefully frolicking in catnip and sweet-smelling grass.

11. My deepest condolences
As someone who lost a furkit at the beginning of August, I deeply sympathize with you at this time. I, too, had to remember that Amanda was given a merciful death rather than a prolonged, painful one, and that letting her go was the ultimate act of love.

She will meet you at the Bridge, where I will bet, like myself, you will be nearly stampeded by those you have loved and lost over the years!

16. I am sorry for you; I can still remember taking my dog to the vet to be
put down. That was in 1962. I threw her collar and leash into Biscayne Bay in Miami and cried and cried.

I hope you have some peace soon.

18. I'd like to Thank you all for your kindness. It is appreciated.
It's been a long sad day. Sammy was buried with all her favorite toys under a hibiscus bush in the flower garden.

We showed her to our dog and he was curious and then seemed sad as he sniffed her. He keeps going into Sammy's favorite room to look for her..sniffing all the furniture. I think he's grieving just like we are.

I'll miss her little purr-meows and her patting my arm when she wanted catnip.

Rest in Peace Samantha..you brought us much joy.

:grouphug: Thanks everyone.
