"The Constant Gardener" - GO SEE IT!!! |
|
Hubby and I went to see "The Constant Gardener" last night. It was definitely worth seeing. Very cerebral, very British. Ralph Fiennes is great, but Rachel Weisz makes the movie. Definitely a timely message about how poor (black) people are expendable to the rest of the world.

4. No, It's a Fictional Story |
|
It's a fictional story by John Le Carre, who wrote a lot of Cold War spy novels. The premise is that the radical lefty wife of a British diplomat in Kenya dies in a suspicious robbery on her way back from a relief visit to a poor town. The diplomat discovers that her death was no accident, and that she was about to expose some dirty dealings by a pharmaceutical company.

3. Good movie, but she got on my nerves with all that grinning. Julia |

Roberts does that, too. Really good actresses don't have to mug for the camera constantly. Fiennes was great and the photography was beautiful.

9. I second AnnieBW's motion. |
|
I just came back from seeing it, and I'm shaken. The film is filled with remarkable, often beautiful images, as well as great performances, but the story is just devastating.
The New York Times had a profile of John LeCarre a while back, and he reported that he never misses an antiwar march. I think that tells you about as much as you need to know about his mind-set. At any rate, we've long known he was one of the most intelligent and skilled authors of international thrillers.
