Some quotes on powerlessness |
|
"I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees. They did appreciate a serious storm but these levees got breached and as a result much of New Orleans is flooded and now we're having to deal with it and will." Pres. George W. Bush
"And although the planning was not complete, a lot of work had been done. But there were two problems here. First of all, it's as if someone took that plan and dropped an atomic bomb simply to make it more difficult. We didn't merely have the overflow, we actually had the break in the wall. And I will tell you that, really, that perfect storm of combination of catastrophes exceeded the foresight of the planners, and maybe anybody's foresight." Homeland Security Sec. Michael Chertoff.
"In this catastrophic event, everything that we had pre-positioned and ready to go became overwhelmed immediately after the storm." FEMA Dir. Michael Brown.
"I hadn't ever drove a bus." Jabbar Gibson, a 20-year-old New Orleans man after commandeering an abandoned bus, picking up 70 evacuees and driving 13 hours to Houston.

1. That first one is just |
|
Reminds me of the spirit of that "Who's your CO" scene in Apocalypse Now.
I don't know what's worse, that he could be so ignorant and uninformed or so contemptuous of the American public he expects it to buy such a lie.

Is he a liar or just ignorant. Al Franken has noted that he is often both at the same time.

All our leaders can come up with is excuses for why what was necessary wasn't done and done promptly. And here you have a 20-year-old who takes matters into his own hands and saves lives. That's not powerlessness. He gets my vote for the hero on this page.:grr:
And wasn't he then arrested for stealing the bus?!!
edited for typo...

There are only three quotes on powerlessness and one on the lack of powerlessness. ;-) I'd heard he was arrested in Houston and an attorney offered pro bono assistance. I doubt anything will come of it but who knows cuz we aren't exactly living in a reasonable world anymore.

8. Well, I got it and expect most DU folks will. |

It's only in the unreasonable outside world that these kind of remarks or events are making sense to anyone.:-(
Thanks for the update on what happened to this brave young guy.:-)
