in the Gilligan's Island theme song, why are only Gilligan and Marianne
named??????

(thought of this b/c of GD post that BushI and Babs are like Thurston Howell and his wife; a comparison I don't agree with)

11. they do not have ranks
what is Gilligan? The first mate? The fall guy? No wait a minute, that was Lee Majors, wasn't it?
What is Marianne? The farm girl?
It's better to have a name isn't it? Otherwise you are just the guy in the red shirt who has no last name.
Of course, it may be better to have no last name, than to have Fleegman as a last name.

2. Gilligan's Island Lyrics
The Ballad of Gilligan's Island by George Wyle and Sherwood Shwartz - Gilligan's Island Lyrics

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Gilligans Isle.

So this is the talel of the castways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primative as can be.

So join us here each week my freinds,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle."

17. Remember at first Mary Ann wasn't named at all - she was just "the rest
are here on Gilligan's Isle!"

6. Didn't another version just dismiss some castaways as "and all the rest"?
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 09:01 PM by D__S
ETA: You do not want to hear the Gilligans Island theme song set to the tune of "Stairway To Heaven" (for real).

Double ETA: "Stairway to Gilligan".

9. You can sing "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "Gilligans Island"
and it actually sounds pretty good. Try it.

16. You can also sing the Gilligan's Island theme...
to the tune of the theme from Highlander.

I know...I've done it. (A friend and I once had a plan to film a home movie called "The Islander" - basically a cross between Highlander and Gilligan's Island. Yes...we were drunk.)

who the remaining characters would be.

In later episodes, you'll hear a revised version of the theme song with the names filled in.
